Lyons in the Sea of Red.
a bit concerning yes Quote Link to comment
wiuhusker
I would say it's a bit concerning yes. My guess is that they are more focused on getting all the players through as many mental reps in the new playbook as they can and they can't do that if injured. I would assume it will be back to normal once fall camp rolls around. Quote Link to comment

At this point, what is going to hold these players back the most is not knowing what they are supposed to do within the systems they are going to be asked to play in. So, make sure they know their rolls, then bring on the physical practices in fall camp. Quote Link to comment
Mavric
It's actually pretty common now. People just like to use it as something to pick on when they don't like the results. "We don't even tackle in practice!! That's why we can't tackle in games!!!" 1 Quote Link to comment
swmohusker
Last staff was dogged for not tackling enough so I guess my concerns would still be there for this staff too until proven otherwise. I think it would be hard to evaluate our RB's as they have only probably done about a handful of live plays apiece. THis should not effect our Line play on either side bc they are live even when we dont tackle. Maybe they are scared at our poor depth at LB and dont want to get anyone hurt. Quote Link to comment

Exactly...we were all "mad" about the lack of tackling and now we are going to pretend like its all good. Personally...I don't like a lot of live tackling in practice. I am a firm believer that, especially by college, you are either good at tackling or you are not. 1 Quote Link to comment

That said, it's been refreshing to make it through spring camp with fewer injuries than we've seen in the past. Quote Link to comment
Blackshirt39
That's just the number of live scrimmaged plays. Probably running tackling drills as well. Also it's spring ball not fall camp. Will probably see more live plays in fall camp. 1 Quote Link to comment

Up to a point...I think like FT shooting...you kind of "are who you are" at a certain point...if not...we could all be hitting 100% of our shots. Lets face it...tackling is one of two things...wrapping up or taking out the legs. I don't know if you need 100 reps of tackling 3 times a week at the college level to figure that out. I have done it both ways...seasons with tons of tackling and seasons with almost no tackling...both have worked great and both have been horrible. Quote Link to comment

Some kids are just not good tacklers and some are. Just how it is. I thought that I heard somewhere about how the Seahawks have completely changed the way they teach tackling. I want to say that they basically teach guys to aim their head behind the ball carriers hip and then wrap and fall or something like that. Would be interesting to see that stats on this technique. Redux
I believe that if you get a bunch of nasty, scary and durable guys on your defense and practice lights out you will field a better defense almost every week. You might be thin on depth chart, but people will fear you. That said, I also believe as stated above that some people "get" tackling and some don't. For the last few years we have been thin on guys who "get" it. Also been thin on guys who can cause a turnover... Quote Link to comment
