Offense: Lewis, Armstrong, and Westerkamp

Defense: Gerry, Collins, and Gangwish

From the article:

Lewis, a transfer from Colorado, is the most seasoned offensive lineman of an older bunch. Lewis' father, Bill, also served as captain in 1985. Alex and Bill Lewis became the third father/son pair after Tom, Barrett and Bo Ruud and Dean, Ty and Baker Steinkuhler to serve as captains for the NU football program.

The group also marks the 10th straight season a Nebraska native has been named a captain. Gangwish is a former walk-on from Wood River. He becomes the second walk-on in three seasons to become a captain. The last was Spencer Long in 2013.

Damn good group of guys there. Right now is when the real leaders of this team step up and push everybody to give a little extra in the work out sessions. This team needs to find the next level and it starts with their physical preperation.

The Nebraska football program announced on Thursday that six players have been voted by their teammates as captains for the 2015 season, the first under Head Coach Mike Riley.

The group includes three players each on offense and defense, and consists of two seniors and four juniors. The players come to the Nebraska program from six different states.

Offensively, senior offensive tackle Alex Lewis, junior quarterback Tommy Armstrong Jr. and junior wide receiver Jordan Westerkamp were named captains. Senior defensive end Jack Gangwish, junior defensive tackle Maliek Collins and junior safety Nate Gerry will represent the 2015 Blackshirts as captains.

I think Gangwish is the big surprise here. Happy he is, but surprised

I wasn't. He's a teammate guy. Super happy for a former athlete of Wood River. Even though I only coached him one year in football AND wrestling. I have no doubt he will hold this honor with high regard and make the fans of NU proud.

While I still have questions about his on field performance....Gangwish deserves this more than anyone. He is and gives 110% to put that N on everyday, I am really pulling for him.

Six guys who walk the walk and talk the talk. They are all performers and the "better" athletes on the team. I also like getting juniors as captains. Maybe reading too much into it, but looks like Riley is trying to develop a culture of leadership that is cultivated and grows. Meaning you get underclass men involved this year and have more "experienced" leaders next year. Looks like Riley is trying to develop depth in all areas. I like it.

Four juniors among the six captains. That's an impressive class.
