Mavric
His football days over, the former Nebraska quarterback has turned his attention to a social media app for people with disabilities and diseases. The app is called “Journey: A Positive Social Network,” and it’s the first IOS app exclusively dedicated to connect real-life heroes battling courageously with mental and physical challenges worldwide. “Journey is going to help change lives one connection at a time,” Martinez said in a press release. “This is more than just an application, it’s a community. It celebrates and honors the heroic journey of every struggling individual. It provides them a platform to socialize, educate and inspire the world. “Journey can make a huge difference in millions of lives. The knowing and feeling of someone relating to you right in your palms will make all the difference in the world.” Jack Hoffman, everyone’s favorite Nebraska football fan, is featured on the app’s site, in the form of a picture of his touchdown run in the 2013 spring game, and the word “Inspire” under it. RunMickeyRun02
I like the idea, but a social network success or failure is based on user participation. I for example love Google+ but nobody else uses it. So it doesn't matter how much I like it or how good it is if no one else is there to use it with. Because the scope is only those with disabilities and further narrowed down by the fact as far as I can tell this is an apple only product. I was interested until I found out it was an apple app and I have no apple devices. Perhaps other platforms are in the works, if so I'd be stoked to take a look. I still hope this is a huge, smashing success though. I wish Taylor the best, I do believe he is truly trying to make the world a better place. It takes huge cajones to take on Facebook. As a Husker fan I couldn't be more proud of him. 1 Quote Link to comment

Probly the best thing Martinez could do to improve his odds of success would be to bring in a partner to migrate his apps across various platforms. Until he does that he's going to have a fairly limited audience. Quote Link to comment

He's trying to make money, and he's not going to say, "Yeah, I know my latest app isn't exactly groundbreaking or revolutionary" in a press piece. Quote Link to comment

icedavis
I've been on the app for a few weeks (anxiety/depression) but haven't used it to it's fullest. From what I had read the pitch Taylor has been giving the concept is fantastic. I have concerns about the execution and Taylor's pitch to the media has been a jumble of incomplete thoughts. It's hard to tell if he just isn't good at communicating the message for the app or if he just had an idea, let someone else build it and still doesn't really know what he is talking about. The app itself so far appears to function very much like instagram and has a lot of the similar selfie style posts but also has a lot of those quotes/phrases posts (think sunset image with a quote in text overlayed). So far what i have seen is that it still follows in line with the self serving nature of other forms of social media and there doesn't really seem like there is a lot of that "support" aspect, which I perceive to be a crucial aspect to this apps concept. This likely is due to the fact that 1, even though there are quite a few users already it's still early in the apps development and it's still sort of finding it's true identity and 2) people either don't know how to truly use it or aren't finding their niche in this app to build that support circle. It's still early on though. As the user base grows, it will be interesting to see how the users and devs adapt. Quote Link to comment
