Honestly, I have not thought much about Texas football for a long time and I have been thankful for that.

Getting Stoll and going head to head with Texas on him got me thinking about them again. I sort of had the feeling aTm has been dominating things down there so I went and took a look.

On 247, Texas is sitting with 6 commits (3-4* and 3-3*) and 50th in team rankings. I saw somewhere else a recruit was saying that half his family wanted him to go to Texas and the other half wanted TCU and he was having a hard time deciding. So....TCU is having success recruiting against UT also?

My how the mighty have fallen.

Have to say, I'm getting a chuckle out of it.

Hmmmm....after typing that, I got to wondering where their life partner is in the rankings. OU is sitting at 56 with only 6 commits (1-4* and 5-3*).

Now I'm up to more than just a chuckle.

You won't see me feeling bad for Texas anytime soon. They are going through a transition in ways, AD inculuded, that is almost the exact opposite of their last few coaches, and it hasn't quite sat well with some of their people. However they could still have a very good class. Not sure how much better this year will be imho.

As for OU, they too could have a very good class, but they are trending downward imo. I personally don't feel they'll have a season much different than last. Stoops' magic has worn off in Norman imo. If they finish any less than 2nd in the Big 12, his seat will undoubtedly be hot.

Remember when Texas would have 20+ recruits long before their senior year and everyone thought they were definitely all 4-5 star players?

Yeah, not that many years ago. And it was a big part of the reason they've fallen so far. They got lazy in recruiting. Filled up their classes early in the spring before holding their summer camps. Sure, they landed the most highly touted recruits on their radar. In February/March. But a lot of them ended up being busts. It's hard to judge a player's potential halfway through a kid's junior year in high school.

The whole Stronghorn situation makes me chuckle too. Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Wonder how long they put up with Strong...

He actually seems like a good coach. But Texas has fallen hard, and it's a long road back. Can't believe they've well and truly been supplanted by Baylor and TCU.

Gary Patterson has been at TCU for a long, long time. Always regarded a good coach. Finally turning that program into something.

One of the knocks late in the Mack era was his classes were filled with commits too early and their classes were full before some kids developed. So they were left with some kids that had peaked as sophomores and juniors although highly ranked. And they were left with little to no room for emerging seniors. It's was a blessing and a curse having so much talent to choose from in your own state but you damn sure better be right on the kids you take when your classes filled up before fall camp.
