winners and losers from conf realignment

The best athletic conference conference in America got even more powerful after adding Big XII runaways Missouri and Texas A&M.

Mizzou and aTm were also rans in the B12. But they're great teams in the SEC? Makes me think the SEC is overrated.

I think Friday on College game plan, Houston Nutt, said that the Big 12 should come after Nebraska and not take No(Big Bucks)for an answer. It was critical to get them back as the one of the expansion teams. It make sense for them, but what about us?

I really do not know what to think of that. I could see the recruiting advantage with Texas. I really do not know where we stand in the Big 10. I hope Riley can make us competitive with Ohio State and Wisconsin, Michigan State and soon to be Michigan. Penn State will get it back together.

I want what is best for Nebraska, but honestly miss some of the match ups I watched my whole life.

I would throw Texass size non-negotiable items - move conference headquarters back to KC, ban any post season championship from the state of Texas, Nebraska can have veto power over any conference decision, Nebraska must approve of the conference commissioner, Runzas must be served in all venues, ban the Longhorn Network, make the downwards horns the official conference hand gesture, NU-OU must be played every year . . .

Getting the right coach is key (look at the lean years Alabama had with Curry, Dubose, Shula) and I am not sure Riley is the guy. The school needs to spend money on the coach and facilities to bring the recruits in the door. That being said, the article mentions NU now has matchups with Purdue, Iowa and NW. So this is less appealing than ISU, Kansas and Tech? At least you get to travel to Chicago every other year playing NW. Look at the angst Texas fans have with their schedule. One decent home game per year. Hopefully the B1G is trending up and I see some great match ups for the NU vs Mich, PSU, Mich St. OSU in regular season and CCGs.

While I do miss some of the rivalry games I grew up with & that NU doesn't play in OKLA anymore (nice road trip for the Tulsa based OK Cornhusker club) - we are much better off in the B10. I don't see how the article says were were losers when they bash the big 12 so bad from which we came.

Football-wise, Nebraska entered the Big 10 at its weakest moment. The conference was ours for the taking when all we had to do was beat a 5 loss Wisconsin team we'd beaten earlier in the season.

The "adjustments" Nebraska had to make to the Big 10 football-wise seem fairly meaningless, and the style of offense displayed by several Big 12 teams looked tailor made to eviscerate the Nebraska defense.

Academically, joining the Big 10 was a no-brainer.

K-State is a simple and fun short road trip- always good

Iowa State was always cold and nasty, traffic sucked- but close

KU- meh

Oklahoma was fun- Lindsey Ave OU is iconic and OKC has really improved

Texas A&M is great- The Yell practice and College Station is fantastic experience. Not great flights and 13 hours if you drive it

Never been to TCU but love Ft Worth- Cow City rodeo etc

So compare that with Northwestern- the train, Chicago is a blast, great flights and hotels

Rutgers will be fun- did 2 Kickoff Classics in NJ - NYC is great trip, LOTS of NU fans there. Been to New Brunswick worked there one weekend- close to NYC- good spot

Bloomington is short flight or 7 hour drive- haven't been since the 90s game in old stadium, Had great time.

Iowa City is beautiful in the fall- the Airliner and Amanas great food, fans not so great

Big House- 1 hour or so from Detroit airport, easy travel, direct flight, right down interstate nice expensive college town with a really cool and PACKED bar/restaurant area. Was good, not great, fans were fine.

No others

So from a fans perspective- traveling, benefits to both

What suits you best

Living in Idaho now I don't get to travel to many away games. Though I will be going to Oregon soon. KU was always fun, I remember going to the game in about 1978 it was like 80 degrees early November and just a great day. Watched Craig Johnson run for about 180 in a big win.

ISU always sucked. Jack Trice is like sitting in a wind tunnel.

OSU was fun. Missouri was fun when they weren't so uppity.

I am not sure how this article is wrong. We have been less than mediocre, while getting blown out worse than what we were in the Big 12, on a more frequent basis. Even worse, this happened when the Big 10+4 was not up to par like its past. Only thing I don't agree with, is their comparison to Illinois, Northwestern and Purdue. We also faced "weaker" teams ever year in the Big 12. I strongly believe we have been below mediocre, especially with everything that was in front of us. Bo and his staff failed. They failed those kids.
