Football season is closing in, but there's still some time before fall camp begins. To pass the time,HuskerOnline examined the top five players at each position in the post-title era starting in 2002. Any player who played from that point on is eligible for these lists except for current players because their careers are still ongoing.

Okay, this isn't the greatest list ever. There are only 7 players to choose from and the ones that didn't make the cut were Adi Kunalic and David Dyches.

I'm a little surprised that Sandro DeAngelis made #4 though. Above Pat Smith and Dyches. His FG record while at Nebraska doesn't appear to be great compared to either of those two. He only ever attempted 5 FGs beyond 30 yards, and made one of them.

I think I'd give Pat Smith the nod over Sandro DeAngelis. Even though he only kicked one year for us he won a pretty big game for us with last second FGs. (sent Penn St to OT with a FG where we won with a 42 yd FG.)

Kunalic might be remembered a little more fondly had he not botched that kickoff in the Big XII Championship.

Absolutely. He was a great weapon. Is that the only time he ever kicked out of bounds? It's definitely the only one I remember (thought that might not be surprising).

The. Only. Time. Then Larry Asante gets called for his only horsecollar tackle of his career.

Yeah, pretty much one of those "anything that could go wrong" situations.

Then it gets really odd when you compare the last couple minutes of that game with the last couple minutes of the 1994 Orange Bowl (1993 season).
