Getting Nebraska Over The Top

Recommended Posts

Some interesting tidbits in this article.

Erstad said he’s still confident he’ll be chaperoning a June trip to TD Ameritrade Park, and he’s planning to take charge of the offense next year in hope of reigniting a struggling attack.

He knows the recent on-field results indicate that NU’s not much closer to the sport’s pinnacle than when he took over. Ending the 2015 season on a six-game losing streak, dropping 12 of the final 17 games and missing out on a regional for the third time in four trophy-less years certainly doesn’t sit well with anyone.

He said the program’s philosophical foundation is still rooted in pitching well and defending soundly. But he saw too many miscues that spoiled scoring chances this season — the gaffes on the base paths or the inability to consistently make productive outs.

So he’s taking over that aspect of the game. He doesn’t think he’ll coach third base, but he’ll send in signals from the dugout next spring.

“The day those expectations drop here is the day that this program’s not going to survive,” Erstad said. “That’s what has been done. That’s what this beautiful stadium’s here for. That’s why we get great crowds to show up. Those expectations are real. That’s where the bar’s been set. I love it. It’s great. That’s part of what I signed up for. I get it. I love that challenge.”

So how much can the offense improve with Erstad taking control?

Really miss Will Bolt. That was a tough blow.

Not sure I agree! Offensive numbers have not changed, it was mental mistakes that cost us runs this last year.

The hitting, especially situational hitting, suffered last season. Wasn't too impressed with Bolt's replacement, and I mentioned that multiple times last season.

If Erstad is taking over some of those duties...then that suggests to me Bolt's replacement isn't up to snuff. Not unlike how Bo had to become Co-DC for a while there...
