2014 Record: 8-5

Returning Starters: 7 Offense, 5 Defense

Head coach Bronco Mendenhall is 7-1 in his last 8 season openers with notable wins over Arizona, Oklahoma, Washington, and Ole Miss. Mike Riley faced BYU three times at OSU and went 1-2 in those games.

  • QB: Taysom Hill 66%, 7 TDs 3 INTs, 975 YDS along with 542 YDS Rushing in 4 1/2 games in which they started 4-0
  • RB: Brown/Carter combined for 614 YDS, 1 TD, 5.4 YPC. The loss of Jamaal Williams will be a big hole to fill for the Cougars
  • WR: Mathews/Juergens combined for 101 receptions, 1,346 YDS, 13 TD. Mathews is 6'6 and they also return 6'5 Nick Kurtz back from injury. 6'5 Houk also hauled in 241 YDS, 2 TD last season. TALLL task for the Husker DB's
  • OL: Led by 1st team Ind. center Tejan Koroma who was just a freshman last year. This group has 69 career starts returning this season

  • DL: Bronson Kaufusi is returning back to DE; had 43 tackles, 7 sacks, 6 pbu last season. The other DE/NT combined for 50 tackles, 1 sack, 7 TFL in 14'
  • LB: Return their #4 and #11 tacklers on the team at this position.
  • DB: Lost their top two players. Only returns 21 career starts and 3 INTs

There are several rumors who is suspended and hurt for this game which will be cleared up here in a few days when depth charts are released etc. Some names that are popping up for BYU are:

-Safety Kai Nacua who was seen throwing the punch against Memphis. Had 40 tackles, 2 INTs in 14'

-Linebacker Sione Takitaki, 19 tackles 3 sacks in 14'

- Linebacker Harvey Langi reported to miss the 1st half, 14 tackles in 14'

- Center Tejan Koroma, early reports he was going to be suspended have turned into it being an injury. Would be a big loss if true

My biggest concern is MR specifically mentioning tackling in the open field and the D giving up big pass plays. This was against TA who is definitely not the most prolific passing QB we face. Hill throwing 66% might burn us for some big yards. DB's need to punch the receivers in the mouth from the first whistle. Set the tone. Need to put Hill in the turf every chance we get.

NU needs to start strong, stay strong and finish strong. Need to set the season tempo on the first snap.

Don't even want to see this board if we lose............

BYU Center Tejan Koroma threw the first punch in that fight. It was a head-butt, on a helmetless player, after the game was over. That Memphis player retaliated by punching Koroma, and the fight ensued.

Kai Nacau threw an elbow to the back of a Memphis' player's head, and should have been kicked off the team. If they only suspend him for a game, that's amazing.

Here's the fight:

The 2006 Miami/FIU game featured a similar brawl. The teams suspended a combined 31 players for the next game - 18 from FIU and 13 from Miami.

Months ago, Memphis announced they will suspend 12 players as a result of this fight:

The players will face suspensions ranging from a half-game to two full games of the 2015 season, as well as suspensions from practice and scrimmages. The players will also attend mandatory anger management counseling and perform community service hours.

If BYU only suspends four players from that fracas, three for one game and one for half a game, that's going to look pretty shady.

Make their QB beat us with his arm. Constant pressure. I think we can force some quick decisions that will equate to turnovers. Look for Banderas and Gerry to key on some big plays. Looking forward to seeing how Davie does in press coverage on an island. I think Davie has an NFL future.

Offense has got to commit to the run and don't go away from it. Even if its not going well. Hoping to see a good balance out there of run and pass. Tommy needs to show signs of progression in taking what the defense is giving him instead of going for the home run. Hoping the coaches don't have receivers running down the field form those home run balls every single pass play either. Short chunks, put together nice long drives.

That wasn't a headbutt. Immediately following the end of the game that Memphis player got into the face of Christian Stewart, BYU's QB. Tejan is shoving him away from his QB. Headbutt on a helmetless player. LOL.

That player responded in kind with a punch. Several other players jumped Tejan immediately afterward. One Memphis player even took his helmet and started hitting Tejan with it from behind. Tejan fell to the ground with about 5 Memphis players on top of him. While on the ground another Memphis player started stomping on him like your guy Suh.

But the one image replayed over and over was Nacua and his sucker punch with little mention of the punch that dropped him and split his cheek before he started swinging on anyone wearing blue.

Mind you, this wasn't the first time Memphis cleared the benches last season. They were looking for a fight afterward and got one.

I'll say this, from what I know, Nebraska will have more players suspended than BYU on Saturday. And of those BYU will suspend only Nacua will be suspended as a result of the fight.

The punch that dropped Nacau. He threw a punch first. He came in to the pack and threw a haymaker, missed, and got leveled.

Nacau followed that up by sucker-punching a Memphis player, the most famous image of that fight.

If your last paragraph is true, BYU will be vilified in the press.

Doesn't BYU have an Honor Code? What does that mean?

Dude should be kicked off the team. He was out of the fight and sucker punched/elbowed a guy in the back of the head! That's illegal in MMA for godsake! We've kicked players off the team for less in the past.

Oh, and thanks for bringing up Suh, who's antics took place in the NFL after he graduated from Nebraska. You get an A for effort on the strawman, but only our coach's brother can assualt people and not be suspended or kicked off the team.

LOL. I love all this indignation. This was an all out brawl. I'm fine with Nacua being suspended for the game. But to kick him off the team, that's silly. I also love folks arguing that a certain number of players minimum should be suspended. The popular number seems to be ten. I'd love for anyone to name 5. Nacua is the only one who warrants any sort of suspension (and the only player who will be suspended for the brawl). But if losing to a dishonorable team makes you feel better, keep pounding that drum.

I'm surprised the guy who threw the rabbit punch is still on the team. He should have been arrested.

Haha. Arrested? LOL. You all are a soft bunch.

Usually if you assault someone, you get arrested. LOL.
