Last Tuesday, 93.7 The Tickets Mike Welch reported that he had been given information by sources that a Big Ten and SEC school were using negative chatter online to deride the Big Red. - See more at: https://athlonsports.com/college-football/negative-recruiting-against-nebraska-shows-concern-opponents#sthash.BFxmUVdG.dpuf

A few takeaways here:

- Y'all other coaches worried about sumthin'? :D

- As if its own merits weren't enough, another great reason for fans to stop embarrassing themselves and their programs.

- That said, it is a minority. And every program's got fans who have to go and be "that fan".

The negative recruiting against us doesn't surprise me. I'm sure this happens against every school and undoubtedly happened with the last staff; I'm more surprised that we're hearing more about it now than we ever did the past few years. It also wouldn't surprise me if the teams using negative recruiting are either Northwestern/Iowa and Missouri.

I would guess this type of negative recruiting gets more prevalent when you are after higher ranked recruits. Probably is pretty low key when most of your serious targets are 2 and 3 star type players. But when your in on some 4 and 5 star guys, and more teams are after them, sure it's gonna get a bit nasty out there. This tells me that maybe we're making some of the competition a bit more nervous on the recruiting trail and that is a good thing. I also think a little negative recruiting probably helps weed out some that may not be a good long term fit anyway. If a couple obviously slanted stories are enough to keep them away, I'm gonna say we probably didn't really want them here anyway.

I think this is poor journalism. Negative recruiting is common, and just because some schools are using it against does not make them afraid of Nebraska, just lazy. It is a lot easier to tear down another program in a recruits eyes than it is to make your program stand out.

i think the point is that they can use negative nebraska fans against us. Every fan base has those fans but ours are being very vocal and starting to cast their shadow. Our fanbase has always been such a positive force in recruiting and now it is being used against us. It's a shame.

I'm sure that actually happens, but probably rarely. I mean, who has that kind of time? Or that much wifi bandwith?

I guarantee you, people do it. Is it happening to Nebraska? Without an inherent rival at the moment, I kind of doubt it, but you never know.

An Alabama fan poisoned Auburn's trees. You think signing up for a message board is too much of a commitment for someone like that?

Can we get out the ban stick on the extemely negative nancies?

Seconded. There's an obvious difference between rational negativity and trolling and this board allows a few trolls to troll away endlessly. It's annoying and supposedly against the rules.

NU should include (and they probably do) a little talk about what negative recruiting is and that some forms of it are indications of low character people who should be avoided.
