Nebrasketball: The Book on Tim Miles

Scott Winter’s narrative of the 2013-14 Husker basketball season, released last month, is a rare behind-the-scenes look at a big-time college athletic program.

The author devoted hundreds of hours to following the Huskers. Miles rewarded him with unusual access. The stars aligned in February 2014 with 50 days of wonderful drama.
Full disclosure: Winter, a former UNL journalism professor, is a friend. But any fan would agree that "Nebrasketball" is a great look at the captivating month spanning Michigan State to Selection Sunday. It’s also a great profile of Miles.
His odd quirks (how he walks onto the floor with 3:27 on the warm-up clock). His good-luck charms (taking off his underwear before “No Sit Sunday”). His motivational tricks (constantly searching for another “no respect” card).
His practice punishments (the 10 mph treadmill). His witty vocabulary (what it means to be in “China” on defense). His inside jokes (Operation Dumbass). His fascination with advanced statistics (his players don’t share it). His lengthy pep talks and lengthier film sessions.
