Hovey Traded Black & Gold for Scarlet & Cream

Grandpa was probably the most difficult convert.

You see, Lane Hovey's family was a Hawkeye family. He grew up in Adel, Iowa, about two hours from Iowa City. Grandpa liked the black and gold. Dad, too. And so young Lane followed their lead.
But favorite colors can change.
While in high school, the 6-foot-4, 205-pound wide receiver sent his highlight tape to both the Iowa and Nebraska walk-on coordinators looking for a chance. Only the Huskers bit.
"It was a weird feeling putting on that Nebraska 'N' the first time, but it didn't take long to turn over," the Husker junior said.
He took his invitation to Lincoln and has made something of it. With 11 catches for 152 yards, Hovey has added depth to a Nebraska wide receiver rotation that could need him Friday with Brandon Reilly coming back from injury.

I remember when we landed Hovey as a WR walk-on. I couldn't believe our luck! Sometimes a school like Nebraska or Iowa will slow play their instate guys and try to get them to walk on. But Iowa totally whiffed on Hovey. He was theirs for the taking and they had no interest whatsoever. Good on us!
