Next Year Needs to be the Year

Recommended Posts

And most important thing that can happen for next year is to get some big studs in early. Get KJJ, Holmes, Gebbia, Tucker, etc types in early would be HUGE!!! You get those kind of guys to commit early it makes recruiting soooooo much easier. Other big time talent will perk up and take notice, which gives us a better chance to get those guys in for visits, and eventually get a few more commits out of those higher ranked guys. Recruiting is much about making noise. Look at the weirdo in Ann Arbor. Makes noise and people take notice and want to be part of something special.

I know its part of the recruiting game, I am just not sold on getting Gebbia. I mean we have POB here already. Lee will be ready in what 17. Someone is going to sit and probably transfer out.

You are way over thinking that. If you can get Gebbia you get him. In fact, you try to go that in every class.

Don't question it. Just get him.

i ran a spread on next year and here's how it looks:

Players graduating after 2016 and who's on the team for 2017 as it stands:

- 0 CB, 7 Contributing CB's left on scholarship

(Seniors - Kalu, Jones, Jospeh, RsFr/So - Lee, Dismuke, Bootle, Jackson)

- 1 S (Gerry), 6 contributing S left on scholarship

(Senior - K Williams, Jr - Reed, A Williams, So/RsFr - A Anderson, Domann, Butler)

- 2 LB (Banderas, Rose Ivey), 9 contributing left on scholarship

(Senior- Newby, Webber, Jr - Young, Gifford, Ferguson, So/RsFr - Barry, Simmons, Alexander, Jefferson)

- 1 DE (Dzuris), 6 contributing left on scholarship

(senior - none, Jr - Akinmoladun, King, So/RsFr - A Davis, Neal, Stille, Miller) *did not count Natter since he hasn't played and hasn't been mentioned by any of the coaches as a contributor.

- 3 DT (Williams, Maurice, McMullen), 4 contributing left on scholarship

(senior - none, Jr - Stoltenberg, Newell, So/RsFr - Davis twins)

- 2 QB (Armstrong, Fyfe) 4 back

(Senior - Lee, Jr - Bush, Darlington, So - O'Brien)

- 1 RB (Newby), 4 back

(senior - Taylor, Jr - Wilbon, Ozigbo, So - Bryant)

- 3 TE (Cotton, Carter, Foster), 3 back

(Senior - none, Jr - none, So/RFr - Snyder, Stoll, Engelhaupt)

- 3 WR (Westerkamp, Moore, Reilly) 6 back

(Senior- Pierson El, Jr - Morgan, K Williams, So/RsFr - Alston, Spielman, Grim)

- 3 OL (Thurston, Utter, Whitaker) 13 back

(Senior - Hannon, Johnson, Knevel, Jr - Farmer, Foster, Gates, So/RsFr - Barnett, Decker, Gaylord, Brokop, Farniok, Raridon, Wilson)

- 1 ST (Foltz)

*if you look at this List our most glaring need for depth immediately is WR. We need to bring in 4-5, with one of those possibly being a juco big bodied guy. The second biggest need there I see is DT. We lose 3 and only get 4 back, so we really need 3-4 DT's in this class, with one possibly being a juco as we are light in upperclassmen. The third need I see is OT. We have brought in some really good guards these past two classes but need 2-3 tackles in 2017. And right there with OT we really need some pass rushing, long lean DE. At least 2. I would say our best spots with youth and depth right now are CB and LB. I don't think we need more than 1 CB and 1 S in this class with us not losing any corners and is losing only 1 safety.
