OT - A continued trouble spot  but we'll see what the new guys can do

DT - Need to re-stock

CB - We'll have to see how the 2018 guys slot in but we don't have a lot of young ones

In addition to 2019 verbal commitments Ethan Piper (Norfolk) and Garrett Snodgrass (York), the four 2019 kids in attendance this weekend who already had offers in hand were four-star defensive end Marcus Hicks (Wichita, Kansas), four-star running back Rahmir Johnson (Oradell, New Jersey), four-star offensive lineman EJ Ndoma-Ogar (Allen, Texas) and three-star linebacker Luke Fulton (Youngstown, Ohio).

Back at it again this weekend: The Huskers bring in another round of prospects for another junior day event this weekend.

The list is fluid, of course, but is expected to include running back Thomas Grayson (Tulsa, Oklahoma), Husker verbal commit Garrett Nelson (Scottsbluff) and others.

Four-star offensive lineman John Olmstead (Metuchen, New Jersey) said he will be on campus April 6 (Friday), before continuing on to Michigan on April 7-8 and Notre Dame on April 9-10. He’ll be at LSU Ole Miss before arriving in Lincoln.

A pair of four-star Florida defensive backs –Cortez Andrews (Tallahassee) and Josh Sanguinetti (Fort Lauderdale) – have also noted on Twitter in recent days that they plan to visit Nebraska in the near future, though did not indicate exact dates.

we offered a K/P today...

When he would get on campus we’d have...

K - Pickering (SO)

    - Frahm (RSJR)

P - Lightbourne (SR)

so in theory, he could RS like Lightbourne was supposed to.

Frahm would be a RSo.

I think we definitely would rather find a good NG than a DE for 19' class. We have plenty of DEs on this team, but Daniels is our only true NG that will be back next season.

They have said their is some flexibility at those 3 spots on the DL, I believe.

Darrin Smith, an all purpose back from Frisco, TX is getting some love from Nebraska. He's the top RB target on the UConn board for 2019 and is set to OV Storrs April 20. Was at Texas Tech spring game last weekend.

Schaefer just put in 2 CB's for RB's this weekend that visited. Neither of them are named Darrin Smith. Not sure we will take 3 RB's, unless there is some attrition.

I'm not convinced that Schaefer's CBs are all that legit at this point.

He said that he isn't ALL IN on McCaffrey or Johnson at this point, but was feeling risky enough to put them in.  He sounds pretty confident in the first two he put in this weekend, one of which was a RB.

We have a few guys who could play NG but it isn't the type of body they are looking for. D Thomas fits better at DE along with the Davis twins, Freedom, Stille, etc.

Yeah that's what I said previously. He will be the only returning player who fits the bill

Grayson and Newsom are, imo. I could see both being N by month end.

McCaffrey/Johnson are longer forecasted ones that are less confident, but Schaefer said that in his write up.

Fong just predicted Grayson N.

If newsom is next that's 5 3 stars to the class. Need to start adding some star power to the class. Hopefully after spring game we pop a few 4 stars

Frost said stars don’t matter

Nice point. I think people are overreacting. Frost will find the right guys for his system, and develop them. Whether it is a 5 star or a walk-on, it does not matter to him.

I’m sure he will.  He’s proven it.  But I’d rather we try to be more like Alabama and Clemson in the players that commit.  It’s a proven championship formula

I feel very good about where RB recruiting stands right now.

From what I know as of tonight we have a legit chance to land these RB targets:

https://247sports.com/player/rahmir-johnson-92125

https://247sports.com/player/breece-hall-46050232

https://247sports.com/Player/John-Bivens-46048378

I would take 3 RB's if you can land two on this list.

I am really glad to hear that. I'm not putting down any of the athletes that we have recruited over the years, but I've never understood why we would recruit a long snapper.

I guess if you are a coach and you are pretty sure your offense is going to suck you might want to invest in some solid special teams players.  Other option would be to invest in an offense that doesn't punt much.

however if you are going to go with the first option and If i understand the rules right it is a pretty valuable position because the defense can't attack that player as they can the other lineman - so they are pretty important in that they can make a great snap and if they have good speed/open field tackling - they should also have one of the best opportunities to make a play.

Jahkeem Green #1 JUCO DT received a visit yesterday. He's at Highlands CC in KS. Committed to South Carolina and originally from South Carolina, seems like a tough pull.

“Outside backer is a weird one to recruit in my opinion,” Dewitt said.

...

“There’s the guy who’s always had his hand in the dirt,” Dewitt said. “He’s been a weak side defensive end when you look him up on whatever recruiting site you’re on. He’s the weak side defensive end and he’s really good at pass rush. You’ve got to be able to now judge — does he have the ability to be a quick twitch guy out in space.?”

...

“You look at a guy who’s been in the safety spot,” Dewitt said. “He’s 6-foot-2, or 6-foot-3, 200 pounds. Maybe he’s not a Big Ten safety. Maybe he’s a guy that if you roll him down he’s now the strong safety. That’s really what an outside linebackers are, they’re strong safeties. Now he’s above average in terms of quick twitch and filling space.”

...

“Length is one of the big things we look for,” he said. “And if we want to talk about characteristics that we look for, you want to have a big playing radius. That’s either natural length of speed. You’ve got to have the ability to change directions and you have to be violent. Those are the three things that are non-negotiable.”

...

“It’s a little different,” he said. “It’s not necessarily a hard thing to convince a recruit, it’s getting them to understand that their skill set translates to it. It’s not a convincing standpoint — I’ve never had anyone say ‘I don’t want to play outside linebacker,’ I’ve not had that. It’s me getting them to understand what our philopshy is and how we’ll approach it, so we can translate their skill set to what we want to do.”

...

“You’ve got to have the ability as an outside backer to play man, to play in space, be an inside backer, be a five-technique, be a six-technique, be a nine-technique," he said. "That’s a huge variety of skill set. The more you show the ability to do different things, the more you put on film, the more valuable you make yourself to the team and potentially to the next level who want to look at you as well.”

I've always thought it was best to get the 500 mile radius kids early. I think this staff is doing a great job of that. Work on the 4* kids out of that region by constant contact and an official game visit. I have no issues where we are currently at.

I also want to make the most important recruiting point for a Frost type team. He strictly runs a COLLEGE system. He will plug in kids that wouldn't always work out at Pro Style system, but can flourish here. He has a scheme driven approach to the game.

Before anyone panics about our ranking in recruiting....

If we were to add Henrich, Hickman, Hicks, Eaford and Bivens today, we would be ranked 12th in the country. I'll predict we land 3 of those guys. Not today though.

I would say we get 2 out of this group. Those being Hickman and Bivens.

What’s your opinion on credit card fraud?

personally I’m fine with it, if there’s been lessons learned and they fit in to the team culture.

People deserve second chance. :thumbs

GBR. Have a good night.

We need Cornerbacks in the worst way. We currently only have 3 scholarship CB's (4 counting incoming freshman Clark) - the rest of the DBs were safeties.
