Huskerboard is very slow to load

Recommended Posts

Yeah, I've been experiencing the same thing. And I think the video you mentioned is causing it.

I don't have a fix for it. But I noticed that when my computer is hanging up one of the svchost.exe processes is consuming a ton of resources. Like 40% or more. So I have just been ending that svchost process in the windows task manager. This causes the video box to fail, but my machine starts loading quickly again. It's a work around that seems to work for me, not a solution. :dunno:

We're going to have to do some testing to confirm it's the player (but all indications is that it is), and then contact the vendor. The last code update we implement for it was in January, so if it is the culprit, it must have been a silent update that the vendor pushed out.

Sorry for the problems - we'll see if we can get it resolved relatively quickly.

No problem at all until 3 weeks ago or so. Now it takes about 30 seconds to load (or more). Both FF and Chrome and Adblock or not. Any cure? My wild guess, the culprit was right column video (just above "Nebraska Features" location)

Does it load for you any faster if you switch your Change Theme to either 'QB 2014' or 'HB Mobile'? Neither of these themes have the video feature.

At the bottom of each page is a black bar. One of the options is "Change Theme". If you click it, you get a list of available themes. Give QB 2014 a try to see how it loads without the video player - the video player is not installed in that theme.

That's not a fix, but it will tell us something. What would really help is if some members would:

1. Time the load for the main page using the current default theme.

2. Report that load time in this thread.

3. Let us know both the OS you are using, as well as the browser.

4. Multiple browsers would be appreciated, if you have them installed. Chrome, Safari, Opera, IE, etc.

Once we have a few reports, I'd like to remove the video player from the current default theme and leave it off for a couple of days. Then, have folks re-run 1-4 and post the new results.

The reason I'd like to do it that way is that the other themes not only don't have the video player, they don't have some other things we've added to the default theme. For all we know, it could be that the problem is a conflict between the video player and something in that's in the default theme that isn't in any of the other themes.

I started with the main page loaded and did a basic refresh, three attempts each:

Windows 10 - Chrome - Regular theme: 31s, 34s, 29s
Windows 10 - Chrome - QB 2014: 2s, 1s, 1s
Windows 10 - Chrome - HuskerBoard Mobile: 1s, 1s, 1s

I tried testing in Microsoft Edge. There weren't the same visual cues so it was difficult to get an exact time but I had basically the same results.

Only 2 options, QB 2014 and HuskerBoard Mobile. Where's the Regular theme ?

Windows 7 Home - Firefox - QB 2014: approx 25s

Windows 7 - Chrome - QB 2014: approx 35s (slower than FF)

Windows 7 - Firefox - HuskerBoard Mobile: less than 2s

Same results .... Adblock enabled; Adblock disabled
