My wife's tablet died quiet suddenly. Took it to the repair place and they said it had something like a "unrecoverable software error" or something like that. My wife was despondent because unbeknownst to me she had been taking a lot of photo's/video's. If I had know this I would have been backing up the files. Since it was a google device I would think they'd end up on her cloud by default but she insists that there are a lot of pictures/videos that are not.

She's completely distraught that she'll never get the photo's/video's back. The repair place said they couldn't recover the data, but I would think it would have some sort of hard drive/storage device in it would it not? Anyway we could rescue that data? Short of some sort of Tron mission?

I know the prognosis is bleak but I thought I'd put this out there just in case.

Thanks.

I don't know how Nexus Tablets work, but if you use Google Photos, they should all be automatically backed up and accessible at photos.google.com. I suppose you could always override the backup settings, though.

I guess otherwise, it's a question of whether you can (and how) to access the Tablet's storage drive from another device. It seems like this should be possible, but I don't know. You can try accessing the device via adb, though I'm not sure if that works when the tablet isn't booting.

This article: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/06/technology/personaltech/extracting-data-from-a-dead-tablet.html seems to suggest taking the thing apart, which might be viable if you know the storage medium is something like an SD card that you can plug in elsewhere (I don't know if that's the case). You might also try your luck asking an Android community, since I'm sure other Nexus 7 owners have been in your shoes.

But definitely, check Google Photos first. Good luck! ;)

Thanks man, I'll look into all of that.
