Snyder thinks NU wants back into the Big12.

Kansas State coach Bill Snyder raised eyebrows at Big 12 media days this week with his comments that two former league members wished they could “get back in the conference.”

Was he talking about Nebraska, which bolted in 2011 for the Big Ten? It sure sounded like it, though Snyder did not specify which teams he was referring to in Dallas.

He did Wednesday as Big 12 coaches visited the ESPN campus for interviews.

Snyder said he “most certainly” missed K-State’s rivalry with the Cornhuskers, saying that the two schools, separated by less than 150 miles, “should be” meeting on the field.

“When push comes to shove," Snyder said of Nebraska, "I don’t want to speak for anybody, but I’m not so sure they’re pleased with the decision they made.”

I think the drawback is the current football divisions, which will likely be updated with the next round of conference expansion, and not getting a full share of the $$. But you are almost there and it's going to be a lot of $$.

Enough already. Folks, it’s not happening. Nobody in charge at NU wants it to happen. Very few Husker fans I know or hear from want it to happen. The vessel is pointed north and east. On Tuesday, we’ll get a nest egg update from Commissioner Jim Delany, who is expected to announce a new TV deal that will allow each Big Ten member to pocket $40 million to $50 million a year.

 

 

 

I'm really happy we're in the Big 10 and as the article states it also pays for Nebraska to be in the B1G. At the same time sure I miss some of those Big 12 rivalries. I wish we would schedule more old Big 12 opponents actually. As far as the success part in the B1G Nebraska just needs to step up and be better. In all areas. Administrative also.

This may be wishful thinking, but I don't think OU and KU to the Big Ten within 6 years is out of the question. I think its very possible. The ACC is more viable now and extracting Virginia, GT or NC is less and less likely. The only monkey wrench to OU and KU is Texas getting a dose of humility, which I think is unlikely. I think we need to go to 16, play each other every two years in football (home and home every 4) and call it good.

Yes two pods make a division and the pods rotate every year. Example Red and Blue divisions below would repeat every two years. NU could then play UofM/MSU in year 1, and OSU/Purdue in year 2 for example. Or mix how you want. This is a 9 game conference schedule so you still have 3 out of conference games.

Yes, PSUs Pod is weak. the point of the Pod is not competitive balance, its to keep rivals together and play regional games every year. Purdue and Indiana can play an out of conference game every other year to keep the rivalry going, and be guaranteed a weak opponent. :-) We could always kick out Rutgers, try and steal ND, and swap Purdue and Indiana.

ND likes to play on the east coast anyway, plus they get Purdue...I think they would like that.

Yeah I like this approach, it makes a lot of sense from a competition standpoint. I also wouldn't hate the 8 team division approach where we add KU and OU to the West and move Purdue East. It would give us better geographical/historical/competition for our 7 division games. The downside would be organizing what 2 are played from cross division. Some years could be brutal, some could be pud. That's why I like the idea of the pod system but I'm sure it too would have it's downfalls.

 

All in all I miss the 12 team format. It made schedules so easy. Play your 5 other teams, rotate 3 in every 2 years from other division. You play every team in your conference home/away over 4 years.

True. And I don't see the Power conferences giving up any teams, so the 4 Superconference format is the most likely, IMO.

 

Big 10 picks up KU and steals MU from the SEC (no grant of rights), restoring historic rivalries with each other and NU.

 

OU to the SEC (probably with OSU) - Oklahoma has always prefered the SEC to the B1G. Probably a better fit. TX couldn't go with, due to state politics (the "Tech Problem") but RR Rivalry would be OOC.

 

TX would probably either go west with its tag-alongs in state, or go Independent. Maybe something similar to the ND-ACC agreement.

 

ISU and KSU join MAC, MtWest, or American

 

Also:

 

PAC might take Boise St. BYU/PAC will never happen.

SEC might steal Florida State or Virginia Tech - then ACC takes UConn, Cincy, Central Florida or Southern Florida. (ACC has strong GOR agreements, so this might be a stretch)

 

Boom. 4 Superconferences. 64 teams. Declare Major College Football independent from NCAA. Pay players. Balance Title IX schollies in other sports.

Balanced #s in conferences will make scheduling and a larger playoff make more sense. (pod champs might play a 4-team conference playoff prior to the national 4-team)

 

Chalk it up. I'ts gonna happen.
