What a beautiful speech by Meryl Streep.

The person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter — someone he outranked in privilege, power, and the capacity to fight back. It kind of broke my heart when I saw it, and I still can’t get it out of my head because it wasn’t in a movie; it was real life. And this instinct to humiliate, when it’s modeled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, filters down into everybody’s life, because it kind of gives permission for other people to do the same thing.

Disrespect invites disrespect; violence incites violence. When the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose.

'Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners and if you kick them all out, you'll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts,' Streep said to loud applause.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Except for the problem of possibly having their rights taken away if they are Muslims, for example.

Shouldn't.

Seems like we have an awful lot of folks coming out of the woodwork who attack based on race first and ask questions later. Or don't at all.

Think you may have missed the point GM ...

Nah...just tired of the Hollywood elite...like they think their words carry any more weight than yours or mine.

I guess I am not in the same mind frame that the Gov't is going to be rounding up legal, documented, immigrants and shipping them back to their originating country. Does that make me naive?

Though I wouldn't mind more football and UFC over some of the crap Hollywood has put out as of late. ;)

To your first sentence..... well. They do. That's true of anyone with a platform.

To the second sentence, that's not what anyone is implying or saying. There's a huge gap and window for oppression/discrimination available between equality and shipping away legal immigrants.

*Footnote to the first part. That doesn't mean their words shouldn't be evaluated and analyzed any more or less than another person's.
