Texas to The Big Ten? SiriusXM Says There Have Been Talks... (self.CFB)

So SiriusXM Channel 84 their college sports channel was talking about the possible break up of the Big 12 due to new rumors. According to their Playbook host Texas has already had talks with the Big Ten about switching to the Big Ten and Oklahoma is still talking with the Pac-12.

So Texas to the Big Ten? Like it or not?

I currently live about 40 minutes form the Texas stadium and would like it but wow are tickets expensive there. Was looking at seeing the opening day Texas vs ND game but tickets cost $1,000 right now! Past that I like it I know Texas has some issues right now but there is a real tradition a fan base as big as Michigans and could be a great fit for the Big Ten.

of course this doesn't mean it is true... BUT

Abso-f-ing-lutely NOT! Why on God's green Earth would the Big Ten want Texas. Talk about "fit"? They don't fit on any level. The Big Ten has a reputation to consider and geographically it is nuts! Unless Texas agreed to join and pay an entrance fee of $200 million split equally amongst all other members and Texas would not be permitted to participate in intercollegiate athletics for the first 35 years of membership. At the end of 35 years, the then existing members would vote on whether or not Texas could remain in the conference and what additional sum of 'dues' would be due and payable to allow them to stay. A second vote would then be had, after Texas paid the subsequent membership fees, to decide if they would be allowed to participate in women's sports programs and for how many years. Then after 75 years, Texas could ask for permission to participate in mens' sports and which ones.

The rest of the Big Ten doesn't share the amount of loathing Nebraska fans have for Texas, and they would bring in a lot of TVs. They already showed geography and fit don't matter much when they added Maryland and Rutgers.

I mean... It's Reddit. I could literally start a thread citing "sources" that Texas is in talks to join the SEC, the ACC, the PAC-12 or the MAC right now and there'd be discussion about the merits/drawbacks of each scenario.

A Reddit thread is as valid as a HuskerBoard thread. You could have started this thread and cited your own thread with equal credibility.

I can't imagine why Ohio State or Michigan or Penn State or Wisconsin or any other school besides Nebraska would WANT Texas. TV Sets you offer? If that were so, why wouldn't they have taken Texas instead of Nebraska or Texas instead of Rutgers or MaryLand? I would offer that those schools don't bring powerful football which is a threat to the 'big boys' and the conference is already plenty strong. They wanted Nebraska because we have a national reputation and don't bring all the ugly baggage of Texas and Nebraska 'fits' geographically compared to most other power name schools. Notre Dame was the best 'fit' but they are too damned independent. Texas thinks they are the Kings and can dictate as we all know. But the MO Tigers and Buffies and Aggies thought better and moved on quite easily. OU is somewhat tied at the hip to Texas because of many cultural connections such as Oil wells and the long Red River boarder, etc. But I could see OU divorcing the LongWhorns in the future because the marriage of convenience is not so happy these days. Of course, if Texas should fall prey to NCAA violations in a desperate attempt to get back on top of the State's football kingdom, then who knows.

The Big Ten needs to find a couple more eastern schools situated in the midst of all those big cities and can find bunches of TV sets without all the UT BS. Basketball schools it seems to me make the most sense. Maybe UCONN would be good choice. Or even Boston College if you want some football name without the football power.

Not going to happen.

Even if talks got serious how would the B10 react when Uterus demands:

Conference headquarters be moved to Dallas.

The CCG will be played in Jerry world for the next 20 years.

15 yard unsportsmanship penalty if any opposing fan did the upside down Hook em horns.

Texas gets to pick which 3 B10 games are to viewed exclusively on Longwhorn Network

Texas gets to bring back Beebe as commisioner

Lol, a lot of animosity on here.

You have to remember that Texas is only joining when AND ONLY when their "LHN and Texas politics in the b12" well dries up.

The B1G schools would be fine with adding a prestigious university like UT and be able to drop into the Texas TV footprint, but the B1G isn't full of a bunch of powerless pushover schools like the b12 (let's be honest, UT OU and KU are the only ones with any power and KU is a distant 3rd) so UT would HAVE to fall in line or they wouldn't be added.

Due to the GOR we're at least 5 years away from this happening IF (big emphasis on if because NOBODY KNOWS WHAT WILL HAPPEN) there is ANY legitimacy to the OU, UT, KU, MU/TTU to the B1G rumors

Texass and Oklahoma have had discussions with the B1G and Pac-12, and the latter with the SEC as well. It's called doing due diligence, and it's necessary when you've got a cobbled together crapfest of a conference and you're the only two pieces holding that s***show together. Their leadership would be foolish not to.

Also, the B1G would take Texass in a heartbeat, but on their terms. Ohio State and Michigan aren't going to let Texass control things, just won't happen. And this move wouldn't occur until the tail end of the Bevo TV contract and/or the Big XII GOR is up (read: after 2020). The B1G can't repurpose Bevo TV into a second BTN network channel on account of it being with ESPN and not FOX Sports, and ESPN won't kill the contract, as they're beholden for the full remaining amount of the contract at that point. Texass would have to kill Bevo TV, though if the payout is significant with the new B1G TV deal, it may just be worth it for them.

As for Texass to the B1G...I wouldn't have a problem with it as long as our leadership were on their toes (read: no more AAU blindside bulls***) and the B1G leadership puts them in their proper place. Texass will always be vermin, but that doesn't mean the conference can't use their cache to their advantage--they just have to do it the right way.

Very good post.

No one in the Big 12 can leave until the GoR is up in 2025, unless they somehow vote to dissolve the conference before then.
