SEC Schools You Don't Hate

Recommended Posts

Thinking about this the other day. As much as I don't like the SEC, when I broke it down into it's respective parts there are very few schools in the league that I don't like.

Actively Dislike: (Yep only two)

Missouri - some good old fashioned left over Big 8 hate here

South Carolina - The hail mary before half time/(somewhat recent) loss to them coupled with the images of dbags in college wearing "c$%ks" hats and thinking they were the funniest thing ever,.... caused me to root against them. A silly reason perhaps but it's a free county.

Change The Channel: (Teams I don't necessarily hate but aren't interested in watching them. If they're in a bowl game or something I'd probably root against them)

Arkansas

Texas A&M - not going to watch them but I like what they did to Texas by leaving the 12. Now they can tell all those Texas kids "come play in the best conference in the country and stay in your home state." I really think it's effected Texas recruiting, hats off to them.

Ole Miss

MSU

Alabama: (Yes, they are their own category)

Alabama - If they are playing anyone with a heartbeat it's a big game. Also they kind of remind me of us in our hayday, we were awesome and everyone hated us. I do not like them but I respect their brand of football. Saban on the otherhand,....unless you're a Bammer who doesn't hate the guy?

On The Fence: (might tune in, might not)

Kentucky

Vandy - feel bad for these guys, in a non-con setting or a bowl game *smirk* I might check them out, even root for them.

Auburn - Actually prefer them to Alabama (I'm told you have to pick a side)

Teams I Actually Like

LSU - Not sure why but always kind of dug them.

Tennessee - Reminds me of us now, a storied program with past success trying to get rolling again. Plus the beat down in 97 helps their cause.

Florida - Father-in-laws alma mater, Wife is from Florida, her 2nd favorite team, watched a lot of their games, also it was always fun watching Spurrier's antic's coupled with them being at the receiving end of the pinnacle of our own awesomeness.

Georgia - Our victory against them recently helps. I also liked the story of Richt (yes I realize he isn't there anymore) getting in trouble for paying his assistants out of his own pocket, probably the most honorable broken rule in SEC history.

So what about you guys? Break down your SEC by team.

The only SEC teams I hate are the ones who aren't very good: Kentucky, Texas A&M, Missouri, Auburn, and South Carolina.

I don't really have a rooting interest for Florida, don't care if they win, don't care if they lose.

Vanderbilt is whatever--I'll probably only be really interested in them if they ever have a competitive season in the SEC.

Tennessee is great. Probably because they're in the same situation as Nebraska. Talented but just haven't found a way to put it all together in the last 15 years. Plus who doesn't love Rocky Top.

I hope Arkansas loses every game just because of Bert.

I absolutely despise Ole Miss. Everything about that program reeks of cheating and NCAA violations and I'm glad some of it blew up in their face this offseason.

Mississippi State is okay, I guess. I was actually sort of happy for them when they had that fantastic season a few years back.

And now we get to the teams that I'll root for everytime unless they're playing Nebraska: Georgia and Alabama. There's a lot of people that hate Alabama because of their success, but I can appreciate their dominance even if I'm for more parity of college football. I think there's a special love between Georgia and Nebraska fans, must've been from when we played each other in two consecutive bowls.

While I did enjoy a few teams play before the EsecPN debacle, these days I have narrowed the field a bit on who I will watch.

The ones I dont dislike....

Georgia Institute of technology LEFT IN 1964

Sewanee The university of the south LEFT IN 1940

Tulane University LEFT IN 1966

The one's I dislike

All the rest.

They always seem to be "the surprise team" coming into each year until they invariably unravel. Also with all that cheating you'd think they would be consistently better. Reminds me of North Carolina, seems like you always hear about them getting in trouble but are never better than /meh.

I thought UNC was pretty darn good last year except for the opener.

I don't hate Vanderbilt. They're the one school I've never seen associated with scandal or violations, plus it's actually a very fine academic institution. Basically they aren't an SEC team so I don't hate them.

Nothing to see here folks!

1939.

What happened in 1939?[1]

  • The Spanish Civil War was finally ending
  • Lou Gehrig retires from Major League Baseball after being diagnosed with ALS
  • John Steinbeck's novel "The Grapes of Wrath" is first published
  • "Gone with the Wind" premieres in Atlanta.
  • The first Little League Baseball game is played in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
  • Hitler invades Poland
  • aggy is named National Champion in football

From that year until August of 2012, that is the ONLY national championship that aggy has ever claimed in football. They've had throwback uniforms and celebrations and had it prominently displayed on their frankenKroger stadium.

Well that all changed in September of 2012. Yep, aggy history managed to get a lot more storied over the offseason. Two "new" national titles, in 1919 and 1927. Two new Big 12 championships, in 1997 and 2010.[2]

Take a look at the graphic to the right, showing the before/after claims. There was not a single living aggy player around to claim or dispute these ridiculous National championship additions.

The two conference championship claims are even funnier, as they were blown out of the Big XII Title Game in the first new claim (54-15 to Nebraska) and didn't even play in the second Title Game in the second claim (OUsux beat the Corn).

"Facts" never bothered aggy before. Why start now?
