Interesting to me that many Texas fans blame us for the current Big 12 cluster. I had no idea they were as offended by us leaving as they are.

Not surprisingly however is that all the blame we place on them for us wanting out they spin right back at us. So it made me wonder, what departures do we feel responsible for?

I feel like Colorado was gone no matter what. Mizzou wanted our Big Ten spot but settled for an SEC invite when we got the offer instead. A&M wanted the SEC for almost as long as Colarod wanted the PAC.

So I guess I would say we were responsible for Mizzou's departure. But even then it's debatable since their higher ups were so vocal about their displeasure.

Must be selective memory on their part. CU and MU were being courted, prompting TX and co to demand everyone sign something about staying, while flirting with the Pac 10. This then turned into the bluff / threat about 6 teams going to the Pac 10.

That was the point that got Nebraska to inquire with Delaney. Nothing before that. Really the only ones with a legit beef w Nebraska should be Missouri since we took their spot in the B1G.

1) I don't care what Texas or their fans think. It's crazy that anyone would.

2) I had an in-depth conversation with a Texas A&M fan about Texas a few years back. He laid the blame for the destruction of the SWC and the Big XII (we thought it was imploding at the time) squarely on Texas' shoulders. More people from more schools think Texas was to blame than think Nebraska was to blame. Ask Colorado, ask Missouri.

3) Texas was actively pursuing a PAC-10 membership at the time we left for the Big 10. Who's to "blame" for that? Bottom line is, every school is looking out for themselves. That's not worthy of "blame," it's simple responsible behavior.

Recent article looking back on this subject:

Perlman called out Mizzou for being the one to start the expansion circus.

Osborne talked about schools in the Big 12 that were asking NU to stay and all the while selling themselves to not one, not two but three other leagues.

Perlman said the Big 12 presidents wouldn’t commit to staying in the league if Colorado and Missouri both left.

And then, in a downright delicious passage, Perlman talked about calling Texas’ bluff. And how he asked Texas to commit its TV rights to the Big 12 if it was serious about the league, and how Texas declined.

Basically, Texas chose the LHN over BXII stability. Didn't work out well, so now they are pointing the finger, not the thumb.

I find different perspectives fascinating. I'm as Husker biased as the next guy and don't blame us one bit for leaving, but seeing it from another biased standpoint can be interesting...if you're into that sorta thing.

I voted that we were the catalyst. Several schools were courting other conferences but we were the ones who had the balls to call on Texas' bluff. And when we did it empowered the other schools to do the same. A big part of me wishes that more schools than just the 3 would have told Texas to shove it and left them hanging high and dry with no choice but to go independent.
