Decked
We better land one hell of a class if we are going to continue to hemorrhage in state talent A two star offensive tackle? If we get any of the remaining guys on our board....instant upgrade they are that good Quote Link to comment
Atbone95
We better land one hell of a class if we are going to continue to hemorrhage in state talent CM, I know you're a controversial poster throughout the board, but I like to give you the benefit of the doubt. Gone are the days where guys like these, who are good but not yet great, walk-on and get some development for a couple of years. Hudl, greater media coverage, the internet, etc - these kids get noticed, and that is awesome for them. It does a lot for the sport here in the state when kids growing up realize they can get a scholarship if they work hard enough. It raises the competition level, and eventually we'll see more and more skilled athletes graduating every year. That said, currently, these are guys that are going to get noticed by the smaller schools nearby. Particularly with Bohl at Wyoming, he isn't afraid to take a chance on these kids. Nebraska has shown that they are watching and will (Englehaupt) come flying in near signing day if we have the room and the athlete is good enough. I wouldn't be too concerned yet. 2 Quote Link to comment

Mavric
We better land one hell of a class if we are going to continue to hemorrhage in state talent See, it's this type of comment that has many people thinking you're a troll. It's heavy on the implication that the talent currently leaving the state is basically on par with the talent we're bringing in. So - by your standards - it should be based on at least some evidence, which you have failed to present. 3 Quote Link to comment

Thanks for the benefit of the doubt, because that wasn't meant to be a pot shot. I truly believe that if a lot of these kids were in bigger markets, they'd be drawing attention from at least mid-majors, which is similar to players we do offer. Will be interesting to watch it play out. Quote Link to comment

My statement means: if you let guys who are DIA caliber players out of the state, you better land guys who are better (and who actually develop in and stay with the program). I've written more on the topic and the underlying evidence elsewhere in this thread and on the board. I won't repeat it again here. If you want, I'll send you links. We'll know a little more in February and a lot more in four years. Quote Link to comment

I constantly hear that Wisconsin is more talented and deeper on the OL than Nebraska. Wisconsin's OL roster is filled with 3* and lower Wisconsin kids. They stole our blueprint. Quote Link to comment
cm husker
And can I prove empirically that a 6-6 275 kid from Nebraska is better than a similarly built kid from California? No. But, I have suspicions that he's at least got as much potential and there are a number of other benefits associated with landing in state kids. Quote Link to comment

It is really only a problem if we are letting guys who are legit Power 5 prospects out of the state. There is a definite difference. I would really like to see your underlying evidence. You can post the links here. But considering each prospect - let alone class - is different, you'd really have to be showing that the guys who are leaving now are better than the guys we have committed. I have a hard time believing you have any way to do that. Thus making brash statements like this is not helping your believably. Quote Link to comment

I thought opinions were supposed to be based on some sort of evidence. Are we allowing suspicions now? That's kind of a game-changer. Quote Link to comment
commando
too bad we don't have any organizations that measure the athletes skills at camps and are able to compare players from across the country based on those tests Quote Link to comment

Atbone95
Hey, lay off the guy- he's got a point, whether or not you want to agree or not. Just because he's worn some threads thin over the past few weeks... Walker was a great prospect. That dude was a tank. Would have loved to see him get an offer here, and I still think he will. http://247sports.com/player/andrew-wingard-75224 ^^ Older sister goes to UNL. We told him we didn't want him. He's an All-American at Wyoming. (Yes, I know he's not a Nebraska kid - thought he was, my bad. Same gig though) Quote Link to comment
