ScottyIce
Hey guys, So I'm looking at buying a new big tv for my basement soon. Requirements: 65" + Smart I do play some PlayStation and watch sports obviously. What do you recommend? I've had my eye on the Samsung 4K Curve, which is on sale for a grand right now. hskerholic
I have the 65' samsung smart non curve and I love it. I didn't know how the curve would work sitting around the tv at different angles. Thats why I went with non curve. Quote Link to comment
ScottyIce
Hmm.. So who has info on the curve? I don't love it, but who has info on why it's better? Quote Link to comment
Landlord
The curves seem like mostly a gimmick imo Quote Link to comment

hskerholic
I respect CNET's opinion here is what they have to say: https://www.cnet.com/videos/samsung-unhu9000-curved-tv-a-flat-out-gimmick/ 1 Quote Link to comment

ScottyIce
I've moved onto the LG 65" 2160p 120hz. Any comments on this? It isn't 4K, do you guys consider that a necessity? Quote Link to comment
Landlord
4K isn't a gimmick, but it isn't a dealbreaker by any means at this point. There's definitely a big visual difference, but there is very little in terms of 4k content to take advantage unless you have one of the new PS4 or XB1 models. Broadcast cable/satellite is still in 720p/1080i for goodness sakes. Quote Link to comment

I agree 4K isn't a must. Put the model number of the TV on Cnet and they will most likely have a review. Quote Link to comment
ScottyIce
I think they meant Curved is the gimmick, not 4k Quote Link to comment
hskerholic
I think they meant Curved is the gimmick, not 4k You are correct the 4K isn't a gimmick but there isn't a lot of 4K programming right now. I have a 4K tv and I have never used the feature. Quote Link to comment
VectorVictor
As stated above, 4K isn't a gimmick, but there are some competing standards regarding HDR (High Dynamic Resolution) that need to be sorted out. It appears the lower-tier version of it is winning out since both consoles support it instead of the higher-tier (and more processor-intensive) Dolby version of HDR. But if you can hold out, wait until the Super Bowl and March Madness for getting a TV--prices are better then than on Black Friday, plus you have the luxury of seeing what shows up at the CES show in January that will be hitting the shelves later this year. ScottyIce
lol Hang the f#*k on. You realize you just told me to not buy a tv for Black Friday, literally 4 days after BF lol. I bought a tv on Wednesday. Quote Link to comment
Landlord
He didn't tell you NOT to buy a Black Friday tv, he just said to wait until the Super Bowl, and used Black Friday prices as a comparison to explain that it's a really good deal. Quote Link to comment
