2017 Class-Remaining spots to fill

Recommended Posts

I know we are all disappointed with the outcome of the All American Bowl, and with only a few weeks left, I think its important for this staff to focus on true positions of need. I honestly feel like Nebraska is in pretty good shape with the QB, WR, and TE positions, so if we did not pick up any additional recruits for these positions, it would not be the end of the world.

I do feel there needs to be focus on the following:

  • D-Line: Probably need 2 more commits by NSD
  • O-line: We had a strong class last year but I would like to see at least one more O-lineman taken
  • RB: I am not fully in the known on Bradley and feel like our depth at RB may be a concern, so if a second RB was a good fit, I would be open to taking one more
  • Secondary: I think we have a couple of spots here to fill as well

So for me that is about 6 must haves, and if we find a good TE (like Rafdal) or WR we could take 8 more guys.

Thoughts?

Props to Mav for doing most the leg work on this. I've updated it.

QB - 1 - TRISTAN GEBBIA
RB - 1 - JAYLIN BRADLEY
FB - 1 - BEN MILES
WR - 4-5 - KEYSHAWN JOHNSON Jr., JAEVON McQUITTY,Joseph Lewis, Gavin Holmes, Lynn Bowden, Bryan Thomas
TE - 2 - AUSTIN ALLEN, Kurt Rafdal, Nick Robinson
OT - 2-3 - BRENDEN JAIMES, MATT SICHTERMAN, Chris Walker

DT - 2-3 - DEONTRE THOMAS, DEIONTAE WATTS, Damion Daniels
DE - 2 - GUY THOMAS
LB - 3 - WILLIE HAMPTON, AVERY ROBERTS, ANDREW WARD, Isaac Slade-Matautia
CB - 2 - Deommodore Lenoir, Greg Johnson, Elijah Blades
S - 1 - Kamren Curl

  • I think we are done at RB and that makes sense.
  • With Blades and Lenoir visiting and still being in the running for Johnson leaves me feeling ok at DB. Maybe another offer or two to cover our asses.
  • DE we need to figure something out. Thomas is still taking visits.
  • OT overall is solid. Not at the level it would have been with a commit yesterday, but not FUBAR either.
  • WR isn't the gold covered N Logo we hoped it would be by this time, but it still could turn out nice. If we miss on Lewis, I think we are still in good shape if we can land any of the other kids on the board. Worse comes to worst maybe we end up with Thomas and Robinson as a hybrid TE/WR.
  • TE hopefully we land one of the two kids and maybe both depending on how WR plays out.

We are good at running back, we have solid depth at the position.

Devine Ozigbo, Tre Bryant, Mikale Wilbon, Adam Taylor, Jaylin Bradly and we also have some solid walk-ons that could provide depth here.

I would say 2-3 wideouts(Three if you count Robinson as a WR)

one OT

One TE(two if you count Robinson)

Two D-Lineman, one end and one tackle

Two CBs and a S

That equates ten recruits which gives us 25 in the class. Was 22 the number to get us to 85 or was it the number to get us to 88(three over)? If it gets us to 85 we will take all ten, if not we will take less-take away a cornerback and a TE in that scenario.

We won't sign any of those in blue.

Very much disagree. I like our chances with Rafdal, Daniels, Holmes, Walker. And we still have a chance with bigger names.

And this is coming from someone most consider on the side of pessimistic.

Yep, zero chance. Probably should just cancel their visits.
