I was seeing if there are others on HB who enjoy playing board games from time to time, and what those favorites are. I play with a group of friends about once or twice a month. Some of the popular games are.....

  • 7 Wonders
  • King of Tokyo
  • Long Shot
  • Coup
  • DC Comics Deck-Building
  • Wits and Wagers (Party Edition)

I used to play Pitch all the time. 10-point & 13-point.

We'd also play Hearts. Disguising your run or trying to suss out when your friends were trying to make a run was always the best part.

Now when I get together with friends we just stand around and talk & drink.

Hand and Foot is a fun card game.

My wife and I play Racko with our six year old.  We also play Farkle.  I think they both help him with numbers and strategy.  Me too!

It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long, the grasshopper kept burying acorns for winter, while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV. But then winter came and the grasshopper died. And the octopus ate all his acorns. Also he got a race car. Is any of this getting through to you?

My family has always been big into cards.  Growing up it was a requirement that all of us learned how to play Bridge.  It's sad that my generation doesn't play it because it's really a great game.  We also had to learn Penuckle but wasn't as big of a fan of that.

10 Point pitch and Hearts is probably what I have played the most.  I've taught my family 4 point pitch (my personal favorite of the pitch games) and they are starting to like it.  It's easier to play with maybe just three players.

I love cribbage as a board game.

Card games are awesome because a deck of cards is cheap, easy to carry/pack and with one deck you can play so many different games.

Pitch! We played 5, 10, and 13 point all the time in my younger days.

Problem is where I live now no one knows it.

I'm in the same boat Red Five. Pitch is the greatest game that nobody outside of about 3 states in the midwest knows.  In fact reading all of the above comments about it makes me warm inside.

I'm a fan of Balderdash, just played a fun game at xmas called Apples To Apples, and Uno is an oldy but goody.  Also, Taboo.

I've been playing a bunch of the classics with my kids (Life, Candyland, Chutes & ladders, etc...) but recently started dabbling in miniatures via the X-wing Miniatures game. Been playing it with my 6 y/o, and it's pretty neat.

The board game scene is coming back strong. I would suggest some on the board to take a look at the new 'modern' board games. I listed a few in my post. If you want any suggestions let me know.

Below is a cool card game which deals with a football theme.

Ha, we play all of those also.
I also like 5, 10 or 13 point pitch but 5 point is my favorite of those. Spades and Hearts are fun. Used to enjoy Canasta but have forgotten how to play. But my absolute favorite card game is euchre. I pretty much majored in that while I was in college.

Also have always liked Risk and 2 new additions to family game night; Catan and Sushi Go. I was skeptical about Sushi Go but it is a lot of fun. Cards Against Humanity is fun for adults and in the right company.

Cards - Pitch, Texas Hold'em, Hearts, Golf

Board Games - Balderdash, Monopoly, Clue, Sorry

But my favorite game is "A game of things".

Generally like any game, just because it's so rare to play anymore. Don't have a whole lot of friends that we would invite over to do any of this with since we moved. Family time is usually spent putting kids to bed during holidays and then we don't get to playing any games. Pisses me off every year. Every holiday.

I think pitch came from the old country...possibly Germany.

When we were in Germany we were in a pub and a group of men were in the corner playing s game that looked very similar to pitch.

P&A is a good one. We play that with friends once in awhile. We just call it A$$hole. It goes well with over consumption of adult beverages.

Ticket to Ride is one of my all-time favorite board games. Easy game with high replay value. Have played the regular version as well as UK and Pennsylvania and each game is different enough and encourages different strategy.

Just learned how to play Catan and loved it. That's another simple-ish game with high replay value. Some other games I have played and loved are Kingdom Builder, Formula D, 7 Wonders, Bezzerwizzer, Matter of Fact, Airlines Europe, and the list goes on.

Learned how to play Pitch this year, and have played Cribbage with my dad since I was 13.

Played Ticket To Ride for the first time tonight. Very good game. Looking forward to more.

For those of you that know the game, I made a rookie mistake you will appreciate. I was down to 2 train cars left, didn't notice, and drew 3 destination cards. If I'd been paying attention I would've won by about 18 but all 3 I drew we're really long ole routes I couldn't begin to make. So I missed playing 1 or 2 easy 2 routes and had to subtract 16 at the end. I lost by 2.
