ESPN: Ranking B1G Defensive Back Groups

Best of the best: Northwestern and Nebraska

The Nebraska coaching staff has undergone some changes this offseason, and pitching the opportunity to work with a staggering amount of experienced talent in the secondary was surely appealing when Mike Riley went out looking for new defensive assistants. With Kieron Williams, Aaron Williams and Chris Jones combining for 11 interceptions last season and Joshua Kalu in the fold as well, the Huskers have depth and stability in the secondary that few teams can match -- even with Nathan Gerry no longer in the program.

The Wildcats aren’t far behind thanks to Godwin Igwebuike ’s decision to return for another season, spurning the NFL draft to try to boost his stock after racking up 108 tackles with a pair of interceptions last year. Northwestern also heads into the offseason with an established unit of defensive backs, with Kyle Queiro returning at safety, Montre Hartage coming off a five-interception campaign and Trae Williams rounding out the group.

I think that may be too high after losing Nate. Safety play is a serious question mark IMO. Think we have to find someone to replace Aaron Williams. Dude got flat out exposed for his lack of speed.

This may be true but alot of the elite secondaries in the BIG last year will be unproven coming into this year

Give him an off season with the new DB coaches. He may not get faster, but he could learn to play more intelligently. Don't spurn him yet.

HAHAHHAH. Any ranking putting our DBs ahead of Ohio St's is a joke. Love Kalu and Jones. Maybe replace NW with Ohio St and I'd be happy.

while I agree with you talent wise, their secondary will be unproven as they lost both starting CBs and their starting FS. Ww have more experience in our secondary plus our guys are pretty talented so I'm assuming that's why ESPN put them ahead of an Ohio state group no one knows much about at this point. Same can be said for Michigan

I'd rather we just put Lamar at safety and have him take his spot.

Our secondary come back with the exception of Gerry. If you know football, Aaron Williams covered top receiver of most games from the nickel as a sophomore. This is amazing, K Williams had a great season as well. 8 isn't between the two and they come a year smarter, faster and stronger. Not including corners, overrated please. You a clown to place negative comments representing red and white. They got it right you just don't know football
