Full share of BIG media rights

Starting this year Nebraska will start receiving a full share of BIG media rights payments. If I understand things correctly this will increase revenue by 20 to 25 million annually. What will this money be used to do? They essentially will have an increase in their revenue by 20 to 25 percent. Facilities? Coaches salaries? Riley's buyout next year? Tim Mile's buyout next year?

How long are we going to be paying Bo?

LINCOLN — Bo Pelini’s base salary and marketing compensation from Youngstown State will decrease the Nebraska buyout payments to the former Husker football coach by $21,991 per month.

Starting with May, NU will be paying Pelini monthly installments of $128,009 through February 2019, according to information provided to The World-Herald through an open-records request.

It will all go into the giant NU athletic budget and will be dispersed to all the athletic teams in some way.

They ran a budget surplus of about 4 million last year. So it can't simply be split among all the teams unless we start giving out 25% salary increase to all the coaches.

Facility upgrades, salary increases, newer cameras/computers/furniture/weight machines, additional non-coaching staff (player personnel, office admins, social media/marketing, title ix compliance, etc.), some given back to the university, more robust traveling expenditures, there's a million ways this money gets divided up I would imagine.

Why would athletic department funds be given back to the University? The Athletic Department has it's own budget that is self-sufficient and doesn't get funds from the University.

Exactly, but my comment was saying that it will go towards numerous expenses across the Athletic Department, and not for one or two specific items for the football team or whatever.

You are right however the athletic department has historically given back a certain percentage to the university. This is likely due in part to the people who complain about how much the football team makes/spends and wonders why the university doesn't spend more for teacher, academics, etc. These people don't realize the athletic department is a self-supporting unit and actually give back to the university.

I think we'll get to see the new budget in the Spring and we'll get an idea what they are projecting.

Back in the day - NU was one of a handful of Athletic Departments that did not get money from the University and/or state. I would like to know what the situation is now.

Edit: Found it
