Eric the Red
Nebraska's weight coaches conceived a competition called "The Nebraska Way," that established built in leadership voted on by the team. The leaders then drafted their teams and are keeping points based on academics, community service, with the champions receiving a prize at the start of fall camp. Riley said it has helped with accountability. "I think the kids like it," he said. http://nebraska.247sports.com/Bolt/Saturday-practice-quick-hits-news-and-notes-51602128 Quote Link to comment

huskertillIdie
In principle it sounds a little like the leadership council they've had in the past. Quote Link to comment
lo country
Hail Varsity: The 'Husker Way' to Holding Team Accountable I like the partner idea as well. Make guys think about a teammate prior to making a mistake or the partner stops the teammate from making one. I like the changes. Whether it translates into a more finished product on the field is yet to be seen, but it shows Riley is trying and doing all he can as a coach to make changes in a manner consistent to giving the team every opportunity to improve. Red Five
The 11 leaders are: offensive linemen Jerald Foster and Nick Gates; linebackers Chris Weber, Dedrick Young and Jacob Weinmaster; wide receiver Stanley Morgan; quarterback Tanner Lee; fullback Luke McNitt; cornerback Chris Jones; and D-linemen Mick Stoltenberg and Akinmoladun. Each leader has drafted his own small group that earns points when it does something well — and loses them if somebody makes a poor decision. Coach Mike Riley mentioned elements of the competition earlier in the week. Positive scores are awarded to players who go to class, attend study halls, are in the weight room, keep a clean locker and arrive on time to meetings. Extra credit is available for doing community service. Akinmoladun said “The Husker Way” spreads the onus of making good choices to everyone. Each player also has a partner within his small group, and if one receives a punishment, the other absorbs it as well. One penalty is a temporary ban from the team locker room, sending the offenders to change and shower in the Hawks Championship Center locker room instead. http://www.omaha.com/huskers/football/with-peer-pressure-and-competition-accountability-program-helps-huskers-stay/article_c91f81df-66b0-5165-bf97-205fee2f2959.html 2 Quote Link to comment
