DOJ Initial Russia Hearings

Recommended Posts

Pence has lied about the Flynn dismissal and what he knew. Multiple times. Just like he lied from the debate stage. About what he knew about Flynn, about what Flynn talked about in his meeting, and about why Comey was fired. Or maybe he's just incompetent. He was the head of the transition team for crying out loud. Why WOULDN'T he know that stuff about Flynn?! Either eventuality doesn't cast a good light on him.

Pence has always struck me as someone who doesn't have clear eyes about the situation around him. He'd like to pretend he's just a typical Republican VP in a typical, squeaky clean Republican administration, and it just isn't so. The way he so carelessly skips headlong out of reach of reality has always really bugged me.

It is rather funny to watch him try to deliver Trump's talking points emphatically on TV in such a serious way only to watch Trump later chuck him under the bus under everyone else when he completely flips the official line on its head.

And yeah, he might have some of that stink of Russia on him, too. Unless he's just compartmentalized himself throughout all of this, plugged his ears and hid in his safe space as much as possible to avoid incriminating himself.

Pence is just another brand of awful. But he's not Trump. Hopefully he'll get his chance to govern soon, because that would mean Trump is gone. I'd give him a shot, but literally everything I know about him tells me he'd pass an extremely exclusive socially conservative agenda that only caters to Christians and old white folks who watch Fox News exclusively.

The onus would be on the rest of us opposed to that to then rise up again and say that that isn't acceptable, either.

Here is a write-up of the WSJ article from last night (that is hidden behind a paywall).

In the midst of the 2016 campaign, a veteran GOP opposition researcher who said he had ties to ousted national security adviser Michael Flynn contacted hackers hoping to obtain emails that he believed Russian operatives had hacked from Hillary Clinton’s personal server, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.

Peter W. Smith reached out to computer security experts in the hopes of gaining access to the email trove and explicitly outlined his connection with Flynn in his recruiting emails, according to the report.

Smith, who died at the age of 81 just 10 days after the Journal interviewed him, told the newspaper that he never explicitly said that Flynn was involved with the project. Flynn and the White House did not respond to the Journal’s request for comment, and a Trump campaign representative said Smith had no involvement in the campaign.

In one recruiting email reviewed by the newspaper, Smith said Flynn’s son, Michael G. Flynn, was helping with the effort. In another, Jonathan Safron, a law student who worked for Smith, included Flynn’s consulting firm, Flynn Intel Group, at the top of a list of websites of people working with the team.

“He said, ‘I’m talking to Michael Flynn about this—if you find anything, can you let me know?’” Eric York, one computer security expert who said he searched hacker forums on Smith’s behalf to try to dig up the emails, told the Journal.

What Smith hoped to unearth were the 33,000 emails that Clinton has said she deleted from her private email server because they were personal in nature, and which Trump infamously urged Russia to find and release during a July 2016 campaign rally.

I heard some of that on TV this morning. It's going to be interesting to see if this is just a dead end lead or if this is the match that lights the fire.

If this is true, it will be bigger than the janitor finding the open door at the Watergate.

This could bring Pence down with it as well as I don't know how you that high in the command, as vp nominee, and not know of this kind of stuff going on

behind the scenes - unless he has some plausible deniability - a favorite DC escape hatch.

That seems mildly treasonous.

What's a little mild treason if we're draining the swamp, creating jobs, winning again, stopping the world from laughing at us, defeating ISIS, rebuilding our decimated military, getting out the dangerous hombres, stopping the drug trade, making us safe again, unleashing the American economy, MAGAing & liberating the American people from the tyranny of socialized medicine to their true destiny of freedom and choice?

'Tis a small price to pay.
