Husker commit ranked No. 1 at position
Nebraska's kicker commit gets No. 1 ranking.
Michael Bruntz - May 31, 10:45 PM
Nebraska is off to a tremendous start with it 2018 class, holding commits from several elite defensive backs and wide receivers. Add another spot to that list: kicker.
Nebraska kicker commit Barret Pickering is now the No. 1 kicker in the country according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

Here's the article about that. We've had a lot of great kickers over the years. Barret may be the most highly ranked one coming out of high school.

I think Jordan Congdon was rated as the #1 kicker in the country when we got him and Mauro Bondi was pretty high too but I don't think as high. I'm actually embarrassed by my kicker recruit knowledge so I'm going to stop now.

Yeah, that's right. I forgot about Jordon Congdon. Funny that most of our best kickers haven't been rated nearly as high as Congdon or Bondi.

Rating dropped on composite,

247's rating has him at 20th best kicker and a 2 star. : (

Rivals - 3rd ranked kicker

Scout - 6th

I thought 2-stars meant they weren't evaluated yet.
Nope. Here's their definition of a 2 star

"79 - below = Two-star prospect. This player makes up the bulk of Division I rosters. He may have little pro-potential, but is likely to become a role player for his respective school"

It would seem apparent that these ratings outfits and their ratings are maniupulated and are 'adjusted' depending on who a player is being recruited by and or who a player may commit to. There would be no reason a given high school player's rating would change during the summer, up or down, significantly certainly. A player's entire body of work, stats, physical data, academic work, etc doesn't change much in the summer. Now, a fall season with lots of incredible kicks or lots of poor ones could and should make a difference.

That is just not true. There is a ton of movement on ratings in the summer because kids attend camps where they are closely evaluated by these prognosticators. Now, if you want to debate their rating system for kickers you would have a leg to stand on.
