Fairytale Prisoner by Choice

Recommended Posts

This is a pretty interesting - albeit flawed - analysis of Melania Trump. The person who wrote this is guessing, apparently hasn't met Mrs. Trump, and is clearly not a Donald fan. So take it with a grain of salt.

But some of the things they write have some foundation. If nothing else, looking at Melania this way offers a unique perspective.

Fairytale Prisoner by Choice: The Photographic Eye of Melania Trump

Melania posted her last photo to Twitter on Thursday, June 11, 2015, five days before her husband announced his candidacy for president. It is an old photograph, of a then six-year-old Barron, taken on the beach. He is looking down at the ground ahead and waving goodbye to a professionally built sandcastle in the background.

That day Melania knew, of course, that the campaign was coming. In retrospect her choice of a Throwback Thursday post reads as prophecy: a goodbye to her golden towers, to the home destined to crumble. To this day she’s still up there, in the golden Tower, holding onto it for as long as she can.

So, why not move to the White House?

She’s hiding. She needs to hide so badly that she doesn’t care about anything else. Not her country, not how bad she looks, not the money it costs us. She has no shame because, for her, hiding is shameless. It is safe.

She lives behind glass, in cars, in her house, on private planes and private resorts. She doesn’t even get out of the car to see landmarks or walk in the park. She is never among the public, not for a second.

Melania Trump is the woman least fit for public service in the entirety of the United States of America. We should expect nothing from her. She’s living inside a dark fairytale, and in fairytales the women trapped in towers never save anyone but themselves.

She is a mystery that is for sure. One poster did say afterwards that she is tending to her 1st duty - her young son. Yet we all want to look up to the first lady - to play a role that points us to a higher good. Such as the different themes each 1st lady has taken on over the years - "Just Say NO" - Drug Abuse being one example from Nancy Reagan. Michelle O's theme was Childhood obesity, Laura B -Education, Hillary - National Policy, Barb B -Literacy; Rosalynn Carter - Mental Health, Betty Ford - ERA, Pat Nixon - Volunteerism, Lady Bird J - Beautification, Jackie K - White House refurbishment.

Didn't she say her personal focus as first lady would be on bullying? (maybe even online bullying - can't recall if it was that specific)

I don't understand why there's so much psychoanalysis here, although I do understand some of the criticism. In general a spouse is not obligated to want the role. It's weird that one person gets this job and the other person *has* to have this sideline-but-super-public role. America's royal family.

"Most" couples would have a discussion prior to putting their name in a hat for election, to ensure that the entire family is ready for the responsibility and visibility that comes of this elected position.

So now we're criticising her for not wanting to be part of the circus? Some people, many people actually, would not want any part of DC or the Presidential life. It may seem counterintuitive that she doesn't desire that role considering she was a model and married a multimillionaire, but I sure can't hold it against her that she obviously doesn't want any part of it. Seeing her interactions with DJT through the campaign, the RNC and inauguration, I'm not convinced she wants anything to do with Donald. Seems like a marriage of convenience and possibly one she may have wanted to get out of long ago. Considering what we've all seen of the Donald, why does it surprise anyone that she opted to stay in NY?

Yes, we're criticizing her. She's costing the taxpayers tens of millions of dollars annually, unnecessarily, because she chooses to live in New York.

I can't understand how any fiscally responsible person would be OK with that.

I don't like it but what do you want to do about it? Force her to do something she apparently doesn't want to do? Can you blame her for keeping her distance from him?

Where was this outcry over millions of dollars being wasted on all the unofficial business trips of Michelle Obama? If I got one tenth the vacation time the Obama's took while in office I'd feel like I didn't even have a job.

I understand complaining about the money but I already see this turning into character assassination. Okay, DJT shouldn't have ever been elected, but does that mean we have to throw a fit over every single tangential issue? Of all the problems related to his election, this is right near the bottom of my list of worries. Yeah yeah I know, you all can walk and chew gum at the same time. Sorry if the new attack angle of the day doesn't have me all up in arms.

Carry on.

I don't begrudge Melania for not wanting to be around Donald if their marriage really does suck or she just doesn't want to be around the stress of a presidency. But at the same time, I don't want to be footing the bill for their nonsense. How hilariously ironic that a fiscal conservative that ran on a platform of attacking waste, fraud, and abuse to make government more lean and efficient is now costing us millions and millions of dollars every single day because of his family's various interests that they refuse to disentangle from and because he doesn't want to be away from his golf course and country clubs every weekend?

Not to rant about it, but he's on pace to blow through Obama's travel budget for his entire eight years in less than a year.

Rant over. Going after family members is lame, so I'm not going to do that. But this is just another example of Trump not walking the walk. He's just another sleazy politician who doesn't give a damn about his word and whose primary concern is what the presidency can do for him, not for us.

What disgusts me most about it isn't the cost. It's the silence by the a-hole hypocrites who complained about the cost every time Obama used too much toilet paper or needed a new pair of socks. Seriously, f#*k people like that. Same goes for the ones who posted memes blaming him for high gas prices and then didn't say sh#t when the prices went down. As if the president can control that. People are stupid a$$hole$.

I agree. It's just another in what is getting to be a very long list. I won't place the blame for this on Melania. I can understand not wanting to be any part of it. Also, I guess I don't understand how the price tag gets that huge on her security. It's not like any criminal off the street could've walked in to Trump Tower before. I sort of think the security and travel numbers we're being fed might be a little manipulated. But our government is extremely efficient at severely overpaying for things, so who knows.

This is it for me. The cost of all this is a drop in the bucket. It sounds like a lot of money to you and me but, a Preisdent and their families are going to travel and it is going to cost us money. Sure, I think Trump is over board with going to Florida every weekend.

But, the biggest issue is the silence from the complainers about Obama's family traveling on the public dime.

Pure and utter hypocrisy.
