Big Ten season length

I have decided the football schedule should be extended by two games. The regular season ends in late November but the bowl season does not start until mid December and for most Big Ten teams bowl games start in late December. The NFL season is 16 games long while the college season is 12. Basketball season has been extended over the years as well as baseball so since there is the time why not football? With rules changes full contact practices are very limited after the first game so I do not think injuries are a reason to not do this. Revenue would increase of course and while I do not know the affect on academics I cannot imagine that would be much of an issue with Christmas break.

I doubt most fans would be against this but I would be interested in hearing the Pros and Cons. Most of what is driving my thought is my personal love for watching college football. I think the players are in better shape now than they were 20 years ago and with the facilities they have now, weight training, medical treatment, academic tutoring, and conditioning is much improved over when I was that age. 20 years ago it was rare that a player came out of college NFL ready. The common observation was that NFL games were faster and it was easy to notice if you attend the games. Not so true these days. Players are stronger, faster, healthier, and smarter than in years past. They are in shape 12 months out of the year and I imagine would love the extra two games to showcase their talents for NFL scouts.

What do you guys think?

I think there's about 0.0001% chance of this happening. That's mostly due to the NCAA's desire to at least pretend like they care about the students. So, no games schedule during finals week.

That being said, I'm all for more football. The season goes by way too fast.

I'm all in on more football. Just not sure they will let it happen.

I'd rather see another non conference game added and reduce the conference games by truly dividing the conference in half and letting the division champs play for the title. We need to expand the conferences to 16 teams with two 8 team divisions and 7 regular season conference games and the Conf Champ Game. If you want to add to the season, add two non conf games to 5 with one team from each of the other conferences (there should be only 4 16 team conferences in FCS division anyway). Those non con games would be "scheduled" by random lottery and at the home field of the highest ranked team the season before with the fifth non conference game a free choice by the individual schools and played wherever the teams agreed.

This would assure more interconference play by all teams vs all other competitive teams and eliminate the 'dog' games and assure, over time atleast, that all the schools play comparable schedules.

The conference schedules can be set up on a rotation basis with 4 teams switching divisions every four years, assuring relative balance and ultimately the supposed balance and equality amongst schools should level out.

I would also increase the scholarship number back to 100 per school at 25 per year with another 12 walkons per year permitted.

Transfers should only be permitted either if: 1. the player elects to go to a non FCS school to finish his career or 2. a player exchange is made whereby school A gets a transfer from School B in return for the student that leaves. (i.e. player trades) and schools would be limited to no more than two 'trades' per year and no school trades could be made with the same school more than once every 5 years.

This would create a real top college football system than could collect the great bulk of the high school talent and establish a very exciting brand and create a huge new demand for TV and other contract rights for the FCS schools / conferences.

Of course, there will be many schools who are relegated to the lower ranks. Over time, of course, the other schools could create their own 'league' if they so choose and compete head to head, once they became competitive. In the meantime, the Huskers will once again rise to the top and take their rightful place at the head table.

Perhaps a rather radical approach but it would ge the job done and help the power four conferences (Pac 16, Big 16, SE16 and the surviving members of the former Big 12 and ACC) assume the control over the college football realm.
