Erdogan's thugs beat up Americans - meeting with Trump still on

Recommended Posts

To be fair (and I cannot believe I am saying this)...

Erdogan's bodyguards are probably protected by the same laws which protects and shields diplomats. Meaning, they can probably do whatever they want and our police/law enforcement can't even give them a parking ticket.

And, as I stated above, why is anyone surprised Trump said or did nothing about this? This is a guy who, during the campaign, routinely and actively encouraged his supporters to beat up those who opposed him.

“The actions of your staff violate the constitutional protections of freedom of the press and freedom of assembly enjoyed by all Americans,” they wrote in a letter to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday.

“Your staff’s blatant violation of these rights on American soil is an affront to those freedoms, and reflects poorly on your government,” the pair added.

“We cannot turn a blind eye to these actions at home, and we urge you to hold accountable those members of your staff who violently attacked peaceful protestors in our nation’s capital.”

McCain additionally opines that he would throw out the Turkish ambassador over this. I find it hard to disagree. Are we going to accept their incredible "self defense" argument? The term 'feckless' comes to mind.

I'm curious why you think shock & anger is "surprise." We were all here throughout the campaign and through the past four months. We all knew what we were getting into.

They seriously offered up self-defense as their response?

What a complete load of crap.

Looking at this thread and at the Trump FP thread, I wonder if Trump is going to be a weak, feckless leader when it comes to confronting world leaders. I wonder if in his mind he doesn't want to do anything to sully his negotiating position for deals. Incredibly simplistic, but I think it's the way his mind works. Heck, he didn't even have the stones to call Comey and let him know he had been let go. Sure, he showed plenty of machismo on the campaign trail, but I think when put on the spot, he shrinks like a puppy being yelled at for peeing inside.
