With today's news that Roger Moore has died, let's talk about our Bond appreciation.

I'm not including guys like George Lazenby or David Niven. If you truly would have voted for them you are bad and you should feel bad.

I voted for Daniel Craig. It was always Sean Connery for me, until Craig took over the role. He's been the best Bond so far.

My order:

Daniel Craig

Sean Connery

Roger Moore

Pierce Brosnan

Timothy Dalton

Connery & Craig are neck-and-neck. 1A & 1B. Moore is a solid #2, not far behind. There's a huge gap between Moore & Brosnan, and an even bigger gap between Brosnan & Dalton. Dalton is so "meh" that I almost didn't include him in the poll.

Wasn't it Moore who kind of thought it was a joke? I mean, I think he said it was kind of interesting that Bond was supposedly a super spy but everyone knew who he was. Not that it makes his portrayal good or bad, just an interesting take on it.

I'd have a hard time differentiating between Craig and Connery. I'd say the Craig movies are definitely the best. But he had such different material and story lines to work with that I don't know how to say which played the character better.

Everyone of them had a different take on Bond. George Lazenby only played JB once but "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" is considered one of the better ealier films and most feel he did a good job as Bond. It is one of my favorite Bond films, you get to see JB vulnerable. You really don't see that again until Daniel Craig.

Connery was of coarse is the standard. He had a great mix of ruthless and cool.

Moore was much more tongue in cheek with a lot of one liners he should have stopped playing him after "For Your Eyes Only" he was getting too old.

I ddin't mind Dalton in the role, I just didn't think the 2 movies he did were very good, the plots were not very strong IMO. He was almost too old for the part. He played the role much more seriously than Moore or Connery did, that may be what people didn't like.

I like Brosnan a lot in role the I think he played him well, very cold and calculating. Again the last couple that he did just weren't very good movies. They got to be way over the top with dumb gadgets.

Craig is/was great as James Bond. I think he plays him much more like what the charactor in the books are suppose to be like. A very flawed human being that is impulsive and a ruthless killer.

I didn't vote because I like at least one of each players movies a lot except for Tim Daltons.

If I have to choose only one, I'll go with Connery. But, Moore is right there with him.

I'm still trying to figure out if I like the way Craig plays the roll or not. I think he is much better than some. But, he (or the movies he's in) portray Bond very differently where he is emotionally torn about wha the does.

Craig takes the cake for me, but he also has the huge benefit of playing Bond in an era of unprecedented attention to story and craft in filmmaking. If Connery or Moore would have played Bond in the 2000's, they'd likely do just as good or better, it's just that they lived in an era where the best anyone had thought at that time was fairly shallow as far as character and plot development.

Pierce Brosnan is last for me. I've always thought he was a pretty poor actor and the 90's era Bond movies are beyond forgettable.

I don't know if he is a great actor or not, but he has done some pretty good movies. The Tailor of Panama, and The Matador are both great movies. I think he is great in the remake of the Thomas Crowne Affair, I thought he was great as Robin Williams nemisis in Mrs Doubtfire. Goldeneye is good James Bond Film.

Connery #1 and Moore #2 were the best IMO.

But I have to admit, I have not seen the newer ones yet with Daniel Craig.

There's just something about the whole Bond franchise that belongs in the 60's,70's and 80's though. I'm not too interested in updated modern takes on it.

This is always a tough question for me. Brosnan's Goldeneye was the first Bond film I ever saw. I was six or seven when it came out, so he was my first impression of Bond and Goldeneye was a great film.

But, Connery just IS Bond. He carried the role so perfectly. So, I voted for him as "best," but Brosnan is my favorite.

Craig did a really good job in my opinion, but his Bond is darker, less flamboyant and more serious. I certainly recommend watching them but I would read the plot description of Quantam of Solace on Wikipedia and skip right to Skyfall. Quantam of Solace wasn't very good in my opinion.

If I had to rank them I would go Casino Royale, Skyfall, Spectre and Quantam of Solace.

Connery, Craig and Brosnan for me. Moore was great, but his scripts were far too campy for my taste.

I can see that but I grew up with it being a little corny and campy so that is just what James Bond is to me.

In a way, sort of like the old Batman series with Adam West. That's over the top campy and not the perfect comparison but that was my first exposure to Batman so it seemed normal. But I do like the newer darker Batman so I better check out the Brosnan/Craig Bonds. Maybe I've been missing out.
