Ladies and gentlemen,

I am a few days away from taking off for an extended trip to Europe. It'll be my first time over the pond; I've read about as many "backpacking guides" and TripAdvisor suggestions as I can stomach, so hopefully I'm ready.

That said, it is my first time over there. I'd love to hear any suggestions you might have, whether it be favorite destinations or just travel tips in general. I will be in Ireland, Prague, Vienna, and Greece for certain, with probable stops in Norway/Sweden. I am pretty flexible, though, so if there's a must-hit (cities, countries, places in the cities I mentioned), please let me know!

HAVE A BLAST! I've travelled a bunch overseas, but none of those big three you named. I think Norway would be great if you have time to get to the Fjords, otherwise I'm not sure you can do it justice ... and Sweden, honestly that's the one place I've been in my life that I'd never go back to. The people were rude, indifferent, food was bad - not welcoming, just a long few days looking at Ikea like stuff.

How long will you be overseas? Are you taking the Euro-Rail around or flying? Are you doing hostels or hotels/B&B's?

I'll be over for about a month. No Euro-rail, just flying and then busses for the rest. Hostels and AirBNB mostly, about 50-50 split.

If you can find your way to Auschwitz from Prague, do it. It is the most saddening and spectacular life changing place to visit. It is depressing, but life changing place to visit. It would probably have to be a two day trip from there but it was the most important thing I saw in my 8 week trip to Europe.

Well if you decide to hit Italy, Spain, Scotland, Germany I'm your gal.

I'd second deedsker's thought on hitting a concentration camp. If you go to Munich Dauchau is only 20 mins or so by bus and it a humbling, important thing to see.

The coolest things I've done included beer garten (it was Oktoberfest, but they have them all year) in Munich, seeing a late night flamenco show in Madrid, seeing Highland games in Scotland.

I see what you're doing with Prague & Vienna - that's a future trip for me and I'll be adding Istanbul to the same one - they're all relatively easy to reach via train right in order.

I admire that you're going for so long and going with no specific plan. YOu'll have such a great time!

Gotta hit Germany. I was thoroughly impressed.

I would also use rail when ever possible. See the country instead of halting over it from city to city.

It's cheap.

If Berlin, try and stay on the old communist side of the city. The graffiti everywhere is awesome. Munich has a river the locals like to surf on and is a easy city to navigate by train.
