Across the Pond...

So, Teresa May's bid to further strengthen her majority failed spectacularly. The Tories choked away their majority, May ran an awful campaign, and now they've got a hung Parliament.

You've got to figure this means May is out as PM soon. Hearing some folks say Boris Johnson, Mr. Brexit and Trump look-alike, would replace her:

Global politics is in an incredible amount of flux right now. Now, in addition to terror attacks, Brexit, and a falling pound due to May's poor leadership, they have to deal with the possibility of a new PM on the horizon...

But hey, Jeremy Corbyn, leader of the UK Labour Party, is loving it...

In summary:

  • Conservatives call for previously-unscheduled election, confident of burgeoning support netting them a big consolidation win in Parliament, where they held a slim majority.
  • Then they release their platform manifesto.
  • Support craters. Turns out they're horrible people.
  • Conservatives lose their majority.
  • Labour surges under far-left Jeremy Corbyn.

It is clear that only the Conservative and Unionist Party has the legitimacy to [form a government], May said in a statement Friday afternoon UK time.

Also note that Corbyn was doing poorly until Labour released their platform manifesto, which caused a huge rise in support for Corbyn and Labour.

If they weren't in the process of negotiating Brexit, I'd just about guarantee that she'd be gone by now. However, holding a leadership election at the same time that Brexit negotiations are beginning is not a good position to be in.

Is it a hit to the far right? It seems to have had just the effect of making the Conservative party depend on far-right DUP to stay in power. And while I'm certainly not a fan of Theresa May, David Cameron was also a conservative and a staunch opponent of Brexit.
