Kris Kobach and Crosscheck: the war on a fair democracy

The GOP's Stealth War Against Voters

Story speaks for itself. It's from an investigative reporter. We all know they can produce biased storylines- watch a segment from Fox News featuring an investigative reporter to see what I mean- but read it for yourself and see what you think.

For reference, Kris Kobach is the man tasked with heading President Trump's Election Integrity Commission, which is one of the biggest shams in American politics today. Terms like "election integrity" & "preventing voter fraud" are carefully chosen coded language. They are used to cover the gaming of the voter rolls in a particular party's favor. Crosscheck is one of the fundamental tools in doing so, and it is Kobach's brainchild.

He is someone of the worst, most radically far-right the GOP has to offer, and the fact that he has any degree of control over any aspect of voting at the federal level should be an utter gut punch to those who care about the actual integrity of our having free and fair elections.

... we're actually preventing (liberal-voting) people from voting legally...

FIFY

I know what you're going for, but there are going to be Republican/independent voters that are going to get caught up in it too. And I think that will help show the ridiculousness of preemptively preventing voter fraud to those who aren't sympathetic to liberals.

A Wichita State mathematician has filed suit against Secretary of State Kris Kobach, seeking a court order allowing her to audit electronic voting machines.

WICHITA — A Wichita State University mathematician sued the top Kansas election official Wednesday seeking paper tapes from electronic voting machines, an effort to explain statistical anomalies favoring Republicans in counts coming from large precincts across the country.

Multiple organizations have examined the past election and found no evidence of significant voter fraud. However, there is evidence that legally registered voters in Kansas had their votes discarded.

Kobach has tried to scare Kansans into thinking that voter fraud was a major problem. But as U.S. District Judge Julie Robinson noted last year, Kansas identified only three illegal voters from 1995 to 2013.

So voter fraud / irregularities is a problem ONLY if it favors Democrats

Requirements that voters be lawfully registered, vote in the precinct of their residence and vote only once, be citizens and follow lawful election processes is the ONLY way to assure every voter is not disenfrancised. The right to vote is a fundamental one to any representative republic or democracy and most particularly the United States.

Ensuring that nobody votes in more than one precinct or state, etc is critical. It does not matter what party they choose to register under or who they vote for, it matters only that ONLY lawful voters are allowed to vote and vote only once. Nobody can reasonably argue this point surely.

Do otherwise is voter fraud and a violation of the civil rights of every other citizen, whether or not they choose to exercise their own voting right.

There are many issues with having the so-called early voting, voting by mail, etc. Any procedure which tends to undermine the faith of the electorate in the fair, honest and accurate election process poses grave systemic risk to the election systems in general and to the future of the Republic. Federal elections are set in November by Constitutional prescription. Variance from this date is at best an 'ify' legal question.

There are millions of votes never counted in some jurisdictions (such as mail in ballots received right before or during the election itself. If the apparent election margin is sufficient, many ballots are simply discarded as not being worth the trouble to count since the total number is not sufficient, actuarily, to change the outcome in terms of a winner.

In my view every vote should be counted and every voter who chooses to vote should take a few minutes to lawfully register with photo ID in the local registeration office of the residence of the voter. Voting is a civil duty and a right and each person should take the time and effort to get registered lawfully and then vote lawfully.

Every effort to make sure these basic principles are followed is VERY worthwhile and important to every American.

84, did you read the letter?

Are you okay with the DNC having that information about you?

To the rest, I'm fine with an ID being required if ID's become free. When they cost money it disenfranchises voters.

Anyhow, it's things like this that make me fear having real elections in 2018/2020 and beyond. This isn't about finding/preventing voter fraud. It's about creating an advantage for the GOP.

Moiraine, I think that fear piggybacks well with a fear of foreign interference in those elections as well. Trump and his power structure seem absolutely determined to label the Russia thing as a hoax, a witch hunt... blah blah blah.

Not only does that hinder them doing anything serious to deter Russia from doing it again, but who is going to safeguard us if they try the same thing in 2020? Trump and his followers will smile and laugh and deny and gladly accept the help.

There's a very real chance between that and Kovach they're laying the groundwork to actively decimate the integrity of future votes.
