We go play OSU ... try to keep it to 25-30 point loss ... stay healthy ... and then try to run the table until we play PSU.  We win all our other games and finish 7-5.

From there, we hire Frost or a power run guy and try to salvage our recruiting class.  Might even pull in a few surprises depending on who the coach is.

As we get into the off-season, some of Husker Nation will be pretty optimistic heading into the next season ... even though it's the toughest season we have faced in a long, long time.

It won't be until the next season after that that we might finish 8-4 or better.  The best hope for this and next season is 7-5 and some crappy bowl.

How about hiring an AD with the help of a search firm to make sure we get best possible out there. And then said hired AD uses a search firm to hire best coach possible.

What qualifies an AD or coach to be the "Very Best" out there though ? I think it has to be someone who understands the unique challenges and situation at Nebraska and how to fix it. Not sure an outsider can do that. We were told Bill Callahan was the best, Pederson, Eichhorst, and Riley too . Not so much

Who is going to come?  We got rid of a 9 win coach and now we're going to get rid of a coach after year 3.  Who is going to come here with immense pressure to win and no in-state recruiting base?  That's a really, really tough sell.

It's not a tough sell if Riley goes 5-7 or worse this year. There are 64 Power Five schools, plus Notre Dame and BYU. At least half of them would fire their head coach if he had two losing seasons in the first three years. Certainly not all of them. Some schools like Kansas and Rutgers are in terrible situations. Nebraska wasn't in a terrible situation.

Hire the right AD. Then he (or she) can hire the right head coach.

There has been basically complete unilateral hiring of ADs and coaches since TO retired from coaching. Gotta use search firm recommendations imo. These one man hiring "commitees" havent worked. Anyone worth their salt will understand the unique challenges and situation here. We are a historic program for Chists sake.

This just isn’t a valid excuse anymore at top P5 programs. No coach we are targeting would blame us for firing Riley if we have two losing seasons out of 3.

I disagree.  An established coach is looking for support.  Knowing he could get canned before the rebuild is complete will keep him away.  We may end up with either a coordinator or an up and comer.  I want neither.

Solich is still at Ohio.  Callahan is a NFL assistant.  Pelini is at a FCS school.  Riley will likely retire.  We're becoming a coaching graveyard.
