OWH Barfknecht: Nebraska closing in on naming next athletic director

Recommended Posts

The Duke    719

Nebraska AD search is either imminent or already made. Interviews were last week.

The Mike Riley era is probably coming to a close.

Quote

"Interim A.D. Dave Rimington mentioned to friends that his time in North Stadium is down to a few days."

Names in the running for Nebraska's next AD
  • Jeff Long - Arkansas AD
  • Rob Mullens - Oregon AD
  • Jamie Pollard - Iowa St. AD
  • Kirby Hocutt - Texas Tech AD
  • Mitch Barnhart - Kentucky AD
  • Danny White - Central Florida AD
  • Chris Del Conte - TCU AD

Mullens from Oregon makes some sense.

Knows Scott Frost, but also knows Dana Altman, just in case basketball struggles this year.

Pipe dreaming here, but he could bring two native Nebraskans home.

Well this Danny White is the AD at UCF and from what I've heard now Nebraska.

How well did Mullens and Scott get along?  If they do get him, then we'd be pretty sure we could get Scott if that is the route we go.

HAHAHA yeah, definitely not the same Danny White.  He knows Gill as well being that previous AD at Buffalo.

I would be very happy with that. That would drastically increase the chance of Frost coming.

Not so sure anything we have seen is true, more sock talk basically.  Got one crowd saying Danny White(not the former Cowboys Danny White btw) and then these 2 from Jessico0.  We will continue to wait and see.

edit: btw not calling anyone out as to whose wrong or BS'ing us, just stating conflicting sources here now so no one really knows other than maybe former coach Bo Pelini's aquarium guy,

Don't know much about the UCF AD.  Is he on the list because he is a good AD or solely as a reason to up the chances of getting Frost?

It was on Twitter earlier today. Yesterday there was an article saying the AD's at ISU, Oregon and Arkansas. This morning there was an article saying Oregon and Arkansas.

I would be happy with Mullens or White. Personally, I would want White since he has direct contact with Frost.

Have a buddy who works in the media. Was present at a meeting with Tim Miles this past week.

Tim let it slip that the announcement is Tuesday, and it's already a done deal.

Unknown to me, according to wikipedia he's been at Buffalo with Gill and now at UCF with Frost, been a full time AD for half a decade.  I'm not so sure how or what you would do to be considered a great AD other than hiring the right coach or getting money from donors which I don't follow much of.

Just had a puke in the gut feeling when I thought..."probably someone that is not even on anyone's list that we've seen or heard about"...kind of like HCMR!!!

Think I'd be happy in this order of those listed:   Mullen, White, then Long.  Or Del Monte with a big surprise!!!

Didnt we get Bill Bryne from Washington?

I don't think they will announce it publicly, but I really believe this week Riley will be told he done at end of season.

I’d be super happy with Mullen’s, but I’m still hopeful we can get Del Conte.

Bingo. Just a puppet there, albeit a well paid one. But, eventually, it’s human nature to want to actually make a difference, or at least feel like you are.

So it's Oklahoma State but in Oregon, trade T. Boone for Knight.

I think it will come down to

White

Mullens

Pollard

And I'm going to say yes to either White or Mullens. I will vote no for any and all Wisconsin persons.

I think he'll be gone during the BYE week. Quite possibly tomorrow actually. I think Hank Bounds and Ronnie Green are the real deal. They are like the fan base. They've had enough, IMO judging from their body language and choice of words. And I couldn't be happier. Anything to undo the damage Harvey Perlman caused our football team should bring any and all fans hope.

Chatter on Twitter that the new AD is Danny White from UCF. Personally I hope that is true. I would be very happy with the prospects of being able to land Scott Frost.

HAHAHAHAHA. As if alumni in general (boosters) don't control things here?

Who are you, are you new? Welcome to college football.

Who got our last coach fired, exactly? Who got the AD fired two weeks ago?

At least we have more than a single person, but other than that you are correct.

Not nearly to the same degree as Phil Knight and it’s not just 1 individual. Much different situations.

In Larry's defense, there was a LOT of tweets and facebook posts to fire Eichorst during that period and plenty of people retweeting Larry after the fact.  I did not hear about the regent posting to FB about it though.

Interesting. DFW airport shows a flight to OMA Eppley airfield. TCU AD? FWIW, found no flights, zip, nothing on anyone else on the list.

From what was reported, interviews happened during the week.  Would they do another interview on a Sunday?  I think they have their choice and as stated will be a press conference soon as to who it is.

Give some context, sock man. Private flight? Not a commercial?

I mean announce a hiring, or have a final interview.

You're right though, firings in season typically come on a Sunday.

American Airlines has a number of flights from DFW to OMA on a daily basis.

How much of this is actually true?  Need more proof.  Danny White would be great.  I am sure that Frost has put in good words.  Wasn't TO down there in August?  He might have suggested this as well.
