i know we still have a ways to go to finish our 18 class but only 9 offers out for 19 is somewhat concerning so far. Wish we planned these out better instead of scrambling last minute like it seems we usually do

shockingly, Kenya Hunter says the staff is currently primarily focused on the 2019 and 2020 classes for recruiting.

1. Akol Arop: Arop is one of the best athletes in the state who became the focus of his team’s offense as a sophomore and put up big numbers at an incredibly efficient rate. Arop is long and explosive, rebounds the ball at a high clip and has improved his touch around the basket. He can finish above the rim when he has a lane but also has developed a reliable jump hook to finish over the defense. He is a force on defense as well, racking up deflections and blocked shots with his length and athleticism.

2. Shiloh Robinson: Robinson is a tremendous rebounder thanks to his size and length, which are excellent for a post player at his age. Robinson has really developed his offensive skills and is a threat to score both with his back to the basket and facing up. He can finish above the rim in transition and is a good passer for his size.

Want both of the above in our next class. Don't be surprised if Jaylin Hunter (Kenya's son) works his way into the mix too. He scored a career high 30 the other night.

Because Hunter transferred late, he had to sit out for 90 days before he was eligible to compete at the varsity level for the Junior Jays. With a senior-laden team surrounding Arop in the middle, Prep — the preseason favorite — went 9-1 without Hunter.

The Junior Jays were a different team once he joined the lineup, however. Hunter averaged about 15 points (second on the team) and four assists (first) while shooting better than 60 percent from the field, and he did it while defending the other team’s best guard.

The Junior Jays went undefeated with Hunter in the lineup, winning all 14 games by an average of 24 points. On Jan. 20, with his father and a few members of the Nebraska basketball team among the sold-out crowd, Hunter went off for a career-high 30 points against Omaha Central as the Junior Jays avenged their only loss of the season.

“This guy to my right, man, he is a ball player,” Luedtke said after the Junior Jays won the title. “You talk about a defensive stopper, a guy who handles it, a guy who makes plays for other guys, a guy who can score, just has bought into what Prep is all about from just the day he walked into the classroom to the day he got on the court, never barked one minute about sitting 90 days, never played JV, just really helped his teammates get better in the first 13 games and then it was his time. He made us an even better team.”

2019 Elkhorn South guard Jace Piatkowski and 2019 Omaha Skutt guard Jake Kudron:

Neither scored in double figures in OSA 17U Gauntlet’s five games in Atlanta. What they did do was play strong minutes defensively and knock down 3-pointers that either broke scoring droughts or gave OSA a lead in the final minutes. They are key in spreading the floor. Other teams must guard them.

Beard picked up an offer from UIC following camp and he said he’s also heard from Nebraska and Virginia. To date, he’s only taken an unofficial visit to DePaul, but is planning to visit Illinois “sometime this month or next.”

While Beard certainly has some college interest, if Elite 100 was any indication, his list of schools and scholarship offers is set to grow in the very near future.
