covered in the 2017-18 notes thread but wanted to give it its own page as there were some good things to point out:

The Nebraska men used a strong finish to defeat Iowa State 92-84 in a closed scrimmage Sunday afternoon at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

The Huskers trailed 68-62 with under 10 minutes left before scoring 11 unanswered points. Iowa State, which went 24-11 and won an NCAA Tournament game last season, was within 85-82 in the final minutes before NU scored the next seven points.

James Palmer, a transfer from Miami, scored 23 points to lead the Huskers, while fellow guard Glynn Watson added 19 points, three assists and three steals. Jack McVeigh scored 15 of his 17 points before halftime.

McVeigh hit all four of his 3-point attempts, helping Nebraska to a 43-34 halftime lead. Iowa State surged in front and led by six midway through the second half when NU put together its 11-0 run.

The Huskers took the lead for good on a three-point play by freshman Thomas Allen with 7:42 left.

Watson secured the win by hitting a 3 with 46 seconds left to make it 90-82. Nebraska also hit 15 of 16 free throws in the second half.

Palmer finished the day 6 of 12 from the field and hit 10 of his 11 free throws. As a team, the Huskers shot 52 percent from the field and outrebounded the Cyclones 30-23.

McVeigh has played really really well in the first two scrimmages. It always seemed more like a lack of aggressiveness/confidence with him so I'm hoping that his scoring outbursts are a sign of good things to come.

Love seeing the freshman Allen hitting a big 3 late in the second half. I think we got a steal in him.

If this team gets outside shooting like we got in this game it will really open things up for Jordy inside and allow Watson to get to the rim with ease. I'm getting pumped. chuckleshuffle
