Quote

At first, Nebraska’s new athletic director wasn’t sure he understood a question about men’s basketball. After Bill Moos was assured the query was about the Huskers’ status as the last Power Five school without an NCAA tournament victory, he softly uttered:

“Wow.”

Now that Moos knows about it, it sounds like he’s interested in knocking the goose egg off NU’s 0-7 NCAA tourney record. He doesn’t think institutions that get stuck with labels like “a football school” or “a basketball school” need to settle for success in only one of the two major revenue-producing sports.

“Last time I checked,” Moos said, “Michigan State’s pretty good at both. And Michigan’s pretty good in both. Wisconsin, UCLA, Oklahoma. ... It certainly can happen.”

Moos said he’ll need more time to study up on Nebraska basketball. “But the facilities are off the charts,” he said. “The practice gyms and the weight rooms and, of course, the arena. So everything is here. Basketball can rise fast because of the numbers. “So much of that is about recruiting. That’s my general rule of thumb.”
