AFAIK the AP poll is totally independent, they could theoretically vote for someone not in the playoff (like UCF) as #1. I wanna say the coaches poll is semi-independent, they were contractually obligated to vote the BCS champ as #1 and I think it's the same way with the CFP. The coaches poll winner is also the team that gets the crystal football, which is still given alongside the CFP trophy, albeit in a separate ceremony. But UCF beat the highest ranked opponent out of these 4 teams. Using their own methodology, UCF should be 5th. UCF also beat the team that beat the 1st and 2nd place teams. That's a fact now. Right now they are ranked 12th in the AP and 10th in the coaches poll. Auburn is ranked ahead of them. It's a travesty. They beat a team who beat two of the teams that went to the playoffs! And this is how they 'justify their junk' decision-strength of schedule-are you kidding me??? It's not UCF's fault they weren't able to play folks higher up in the rankings.
