What actually happens?

Recommended Posts

Take pictures with uniforms on. Show the facilities. Talk to coaches, they probably get some nice meals. Hang out with players with one player hosting kinda showing the recruit what its like to be a husker and what the guys do in there spare time. Talk to professors and people on the academic side to get a feel for that. I have no inside information, but I imagine all of these things happen on an OV

I can tell you years ago what happened (I worked there), I'm sure it's changed dramatically.

Arrive with parents/girlfriend etc and get an introduction to a local student who works for the program.  Parade around the facilities with local student as an escort (not the naughty kind) with a guide at each stop to give detail (i.e. weight room, caf, etc)  Grab lunch at training table (big boy food) Afternoons are to meet one on one with position coach, weight room/PT/dietician.  Walk across the field in the stadium.  See practice fields.  I believe now they also have meetings with their potential college major academic rep.  At end of day mom and dad go back to the hotel and Jr. gets assigned a FB player to show them around and give them an idea on student life.  Given money to go out to eat.

Obviously now photo in unis and lockerroom and etc are a big deal - that wasn't the case when I was there.

Sounds like Hank Bounds is now meeting and talking individually with families during the OV's and Bill Moos is also taking the time to meet with them. Would send a pretty strong message about a united front to meet with all of the coaches, AD, and president of the University it seems like.

Can you imagine Perlman and Eichorst doing that?

Recruits do the whole school, faculty, and coach thing.  Then they are usually assigned to a player to host them that night.   It was the players job to feel out the recruit and see what they wanted to do.  Sometimes it was hang out and play Madden, others it was take them put and introduce them to every hot girl on campus and get wasted.  Just depends on the personality of the recruit.  My roommate and I had a 90 percent sign ratio.  #moneyteam
