commando
not sure if true...but if it is putin ain't going to be happy https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-02-13/u-s-strikes-said-to-kill-scores-of-russian-fighters-in-syria More than 200 contract soldiers, mostly Russians fighting on behalf of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, died in a failed attack on a base held by U.S. and mainly Kurdish forces in the oil-rich Deir Ezzor region, two of the Russians said. The U.S. official put the death toll at about 100, with 200 to 300 injured. Link to comment
BigRedBuster
OK...So, the Russians were attacking the US troops base? I have no problem with 200 (or more) of them being dead. 3 Link to comment
Kiyoat Husker
Compare these headlines at this moment in time: Reuters: "Kremlin has no information about Russian mercenaries being killed..." NY Times: "Dozens of Russians are Believed Killed...." The Hill: "Several Russian Mercenaries killed..." CNN: "Several Russians killed..." FoxNews: "Russian news reports say at least several private Russian millitary contractors killed..." Bloomberg: "Scores of Russia Fighters Killed..." New York Post: "As many as 100 Russian Fighteres killed..." haaretz.com: "Hundreds of pro-Assad mercenaries and Russian Troops Killed..." The Daily Beast: "More than 200 Russian Fighters Killed..." Daily Mail: "More than 640 Russian mercenary soldiers killed..." The less respectible the source, the more wild sensationalism on the number. I don't know what the real number is but hopefully it was every last one that attacked us. Link to comment
ZRod
And why were they attacking a base where there were US troops? Link to comment

Same reason the Iraqi government and Shia militias pushed the Kurds out of Kirkuk. There is a huge oil field under it. Link to comment
NUance
The operative words are "contract soldiers". There won't likely be repercussions over the deaths of mercenaries who attacked a U.S. position. Link to comment
