VectorVictor
I think we’re getting better as a nation at handling this process loop—most of us have already skipped the bulls*** “thoughts and prayer” stage and went right into Facebook (nee social media) debates. #Progress Edited February 15, 2018 by VectorVictor 4 Link to comment

What are we supposed to do? Pre-emptively arrest people on the idea that they might do something like this? I have no idea what the solution is, or could be. Except we really don't know if there isn't a way to predict when and where since Republicans and the NRA have effectively banned the CDC from researching gun violence with the Dickey Amendment. 21 years of possible research lost because the NRA was butthurt about a CDC study that reflected negatively on gun owning households. Even the author of the amendment, Jay Dickey, regrets what has resulted. http://www.cnn.com/2015/12/02/politics/jay-dickey-gun-violence-research/ Quote In a letter to the chair of House Democrats' task force on gun violence prevention, former Rep. Jay Dickey of Arkansas called for the government to fund research at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to examine the causes of gun violence in the U.S. and expressed "regrets" for his part in stopping that research. knapplc
Leave it to the fearless leader to politicize this. And here's how that suggestion by The Donald and his NRA handlers would play out in reality: 1 Link to comment
BigRedBuster
When the chemical industry has a pollution problem, the public tells them they need to fix it and the industry works to improve. When the car industry has a gas efficiency problem, the public tells them they need to fix it and the industry works to improve. When the agriculture industry has a water problem, the public tells them they need to fix it and the industry works to improve. When the agriculture industry has a solution problem, the public tells them they need to fix it and the industry works to improve. When manufacturing industries have a safety issue, the public tells them they need to fix it and the industry works to improve. Now, none of these are done willingly, but over time, the industry has embraced to a certain level fixing each of these problems. UNTIL...we get to an industry that makes items made to kill people and they are used to do just that at an extremely efficient level. I just don't understand why this issue is so personally emotional to so many people that they are willing to look past innocent children being slaughtered so they don't have to tell the gun industry they need to be part of the solution. knapplc
So, this person is known by his classmates and teachers to have had mental issues. And Trump says we're supposed to be on the lookout for these kinds of people. His gun was purchased legally, despite his mental issues. How could that have happened? Thanks, Trump! 7 Link to comment

But since then, school shootings have become much more prominent, starting with Columbine in 1999. It seems Democrats have since changed their stance recognizing this grave issue, while Republicans are entrenched with their NRA lobby. Edited February 15, 2018 by QMany 2 Link to comment

Let's replace all the AR-15's with old-time muskets if they are insistent on their 2nd Amendment rights. 3 Link to comment
knapplc
Freaking hero, man. And there's half a dozen teachers in every school in America just like this guy. Tragic that it took something like this for us to know this man's name, and tragic that he's gone forever now. 4 Link to comment
