Spring Practice Notes

Recommended Posts

Quote

Nebraska will practice on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings in the spring. Morning practices are a major change for the Huskers. They haven't used such a format in the spring for at least 30 years.

"Hopefully we can get all the kids' (class) schedules to where we can do it in the mornings in the fall," the coach said.

LJS

Spring Schedule:

First Practice: Friday, March 16, 6-8 AM

Practices will be Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30-10:05 AM from March 27-April 19

Saturday practices on March 31, April 7 & April 14

Last Pre-Spring-Game practice on Friday, April 20, 4:30-6:00 PM

Spring Game - Saturday, April 21 @ 11 AM

Final Spring Practice - Monday, April 23

Notes:

Tuesday/Thursday practices are earlier than they did at UCF but they're trying to go early enough to not have too many class conflicts.  Still working on what they'll do in the fall.

Other schools have had a "clean-up" practice after the Spring Game but Nebraska has not.  Gives a chance to go over what happened in the Spring Game.  But it sounds like the main reason for it is the timeframe between Spring Break and April 21.  Frost wanted the Spring Game on April 28 but couldn't get it to work.  So they had to have one practice before Spring Break and one practice after the Spring Game to make it work.

Conrad, Decker and Domann sound like they’ll be limited at best during Spring.  There is talk that Domann won’t even play this fall.

Plus, of course, Bryant is a question mark.

Why won't Domann be playing?

It will still be quite some time before I stop giving +1s to any and all "strain" comments.

Thought it might be fun to see if he says similar things this year. These are from spring practice in 2016.

A brief recap from Frost's appearance on Husker Sports Nightly last night.

Quote

Frost said NU players have made gains — well, gains through weight losses — during winter conditioning with new Nebraska strength and conditioning coach Zach Duval. The players had a 52-day layoff — in a separate interview, left guard Jerald Foster told The World-Herald the players knew how rigorous the workouts would be beforehand — and had to get to work quickly.

"I’ve seen some before (and) after pictures, and it kind of looks like 'The Biggest Loser,'" Frost said of winter conditioning. "You see a picture of someone seven weeks ago before they started with Coach Duval, and there’s guys making really good gains and cutting body fat.”

Body fat percentage was one of Frost's concerns in January.

Can't be.

Tim Beck was labeled an Idiot for saying that.

It does make you feel bad for Ben Miles.

I wonder if he'll be able to carve out any playing time as a RB or TE/H-Back.

If he is a good enough athlete they will find away to get him in the game. Maybe on offense or maybe on the defensive side of the ball

He'll probably be moved to H Back or even LB.

I don't know the kid so I have no idea.

But if football were the only thing to go into a transfer decision, Ben Miles will be part of the attrition this summer.

But, he's more than a football player, so who knows?

The way I remember it (and is probably wrong) is that Beck had said that TE/FB were obsolete in modern football.  Which is different from the Oregon offense not having a position that is called fullback.

I'm guessing you weren't on last night. He did it in 3 topics all at once. I thought the first one was funny but then I felt like I'd been duped.
