Stormy Daniels vs. The Donald

Very good point.  Trump isn't the first politician to ride that horse (no pun intended:o:facepalm:)

What could get him is if the use of campaign funds for hush money is a violation of campaign finance laws.  Does anyone have insight on that?  It may be another piece of rope he gives Mueller to hang himself with.  (I guess his genius isn't that far removed from the Apple Dumpling Gang - you would have to know the line in the movie to get it - Don Knotts and Tim Conway at their best).

That was basically the whole gist of the 60 Minutes thing. His attorney paid her hush money with his personal funds but that payoff, because of when it occurred and the letterhead on communications, is likely an illegal campaign contribution. $130k is about $125k more than Trump's attorney is allowed to give legally to the campaign. If anything comes from this, that will probably be the focus.

I think maybe it was answered in the interview but is it also illegal to accept it? I believe her lawyer mentioned that Trump could pay him back even now.

I believe he said Trump could "mitigate" the punishment (if there were to be one) by paying it back, but the crime has already been committed.  I understood it to be like doing a "dine and dash" when you're out drinking with friends, but then going back to IHOP the next day to pay because you sobered up and felt bad.  IHOP still has every right to call the cops, but you're hoping they take your money, apology, and promise that you'll never come back.

I think the problem for Cohen though is Trump would have to admit he knew about the whole thing if he reimbursed Cohen.  Trump has denied having any involvement from the beginning.  Although it might not even make a difference, he'd still deny any involvement....

besides the potential payment illegalities this stands out to me

Daniels was on her way to a fitness class with her infant daughter when she said she was accosted.

“A guy walked up on me and said to me, ‘Leave Trump alone. Forget the story.’”

It was at that point that the alleged threat of physical violence was made, according to her account.

Daniels told CBS that the man, who she could not identify, “leaned around and looked at my daughter and said, ‘That’s a beautiful little girl. It’d be a shame if something happened to her mom.’ And then he was gone.”

So Trump hired the Mafia?

Trump's words Thursday could bring legal blowback for Cohen. If Cohen made the payment with his own funds — as he has claimed — but without Trump's knowledge, the payment could amount to an illegal contribution to Trump's campaign.

I'm sure there's nothing to see here.

F.B.I. Raids Office of Trump’s Longtime Lawyer Michael Cohen

The F.B.I. on Monday raided the office of President Trump’s longtime personal lawyer, Michael D. Cohen, seizing records related to several topics including payments to a pornographic-film actress.

Federal prosecutors in Manhattan obtained the search warrant after receiving a referral from the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, according to Mr. Cohen’s lawyer, who called the search “completely inappropriate and unnecessary.” The search does not appear to be directly related to Mr. Mueller’s investigation, but likely resulted from information he had uncovered and gave to prosecutors in New York.

“Today the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York executed a series of search warrants and seized the privileged communications between my client, Michael Cohen, and his clients,” said Stephen Ryan, his lawyer. “I have been advised by federal prosecutors that the New York action is, in part, a referral by the Office of Special Counsel, Robert Mueller.”

Mr. Cohen plays a role in aspects of the special counsel’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. He also recently said he paid $130,000 to a pornographic-film actress, Stephanie Clifford, who said she had an affair with Mr. Trump. Ms. Clifford is known as Stormy Daniels.

I'd imagine that's an extremely high bar to seize attorney documents. Otherwise whoever requested and signed off on the warrants are complete fools. Attorney client privilege is a pretty serious thing I'm told /s
