If he can improve his footwork, the Huskers might play "big" more often with Roby at the 3 with Copeland & Tshimanga both on the court, but that might cause rotation issues if Heiman isn't ready to play immediately because Borchardt plays hard, but won't get much PT in conference play because he's not quick enough.  Tshimanga only played 13 minutes a game last year & I think he would probably get 20-22 in the 18/19 season.

I'd like to see Jordy get more time because I've seen flashes of talent, but the consistency of his footwork will have to take a huge jump to get starter type minutes (25-30).  He's only been playing organized basketball for 5-6 years so a big jump is possible.

I've watched a couple Heiman's HS games this last year.  He's got good length & a soft touch, but he needs to add weight & strength.  He got pushed around by guys much smaller than him.  If he plays, he will get eat'n alive.

would that be a foul or a T

I kind of like the idea of Jordy off the bench as a change of pace. You are forced to slow down but potentially you can use him to lean on other teams backups and if he can improve footwork/finishing, it might be a way to slow a game down a bit.

Also very curious what happens with the last scholarship. Do we save it to get a guy who can help us in future, or go all in with a grad transfer for this year.

TM would be wise to go with a GT - due to his short contract.  If the year goes bad, not that big of a deal for the grad transfer.  If the the year goes well - TM should get a full contract and the quality of recruit that will be much better.  With the early solid rankings and history of transfer success - somebody should bite.

I agree. I say go all in for this season. I wish the Duby experiment would have gone better because thats the type of guy I would like. A rim protector who can get rebounds.. Ideally someone who can get up and down the court as well.

If that isnt available, then a 3pt specialist who can move without the ball and get open.

Do you have to bag on Heiman in every basketball thread?

I'm just posting to posting.  But, I did read, and re-read the post, and all of these as well.

Unless Heiman puts on good weight and gets stronger, the Big 10 will toss him around like a wet rag.

He is the same as Heiman. Tall, skinny,  long ams,  project.   Both young men need to put on 40+ lbs.

I watched a naia kid take him to the woodshed.  The team had to go to a zone.  The kid has a big wing span & a nice touch inside 10.  Way too soft on the boards & def.   I'm not against him,  just saying he is not the guy to look for production for a couple years.

And don't count on Heiman, as this kid is a project.  As rumors go, I also heard there is some questions about his work ethic.

Our state has a long way to go when it comes to DI prospects.  I think Heiman is a big stretch.

I have and your always down on the kid. Is he a D-1 guy right now? Probably not but he made great strides in a 2 month period doing an  auctual weight training schedule. He’s 6’10” w a lot of potential and we don’t get that very often here.

I also said that he has big wing span with a soft touch.   I'm just saying he is not ready to walk in and play a lot of minutes like some people think, mainly because he is thin & needs to add weight.

I think the lineup that fits together best is:

Allen

Palmer

Roby

Copeland

Tshimanga

I think the actual starting 5 will be:

Watson

Allen

Palmer

Copeland

Roby

Id also be curious to see how Akenten fits into that starting 5 in place of Jordy when we want to go “small”. We wouldn’t have a traditional big but the smallest guy would be 6’3. Would allow us to defend by switching everything and makes us more versatile IMO

I don't get where you see Allen as the better fit over Watson... However I'm willing to listen. If your argument is only that Watson had a rough year, I'm not buying it. I think Allen has a legit place with this team, I just don't see it as overtaking Watson.

Don't mistake better fit for better player.

Watson really struggled playing off the ball last year. With Palmer being as ball dominant as he is I think Allen fits better next to him because he's proven he can be a catch and shoot guy or at least be efficient and make good decisions playing off the ball. Watson's played his best basketball as the primary ball handler and I think playing in a lineup either without Palmer in the game or in situations that would allow him to run more sets with the ball in his hands ultimately would be better for him.
