Even in the Age of Trump, there are still consequences for being a racist

Recommended Posts

Again, the KKK and neo-Nazi's have openly endorsed Trump, and celebrated the brighter future white supremacy has with one of their own in the White House.

They feel empowered. They feel the tide turning against the horrible march towards diversity we've been on. It's hardly a secret. It's on virtually every Comments section on the Internet.

Donald Trump will sort of disavow this in a statement drawn up by someone else. But he will never turn on the people who flatter him.  And because he is a narcissist first and showman second, he pays close attention to the statements that draw the biggest cheers at his rallies. The uglier the sentiment, the bigger the cheer.

Of course this isn't all Donald Trump's fault. The ugliness was already there. And we're not talking about neo-Nazis and the KKK now,; the people who embrace their racism. We're talking about millions of people who want a return to a simpler America, and don't admit how much of that simplicity had to do with white privilege.

It's still racism, but without the swastikas.

The bolded is true. I personally think Trump was just the laziest modern president caught clumsily getting into bed with these sorts. Past politicians not named George Wallace or David Duke mostly coddled these type of voters with a wink and a nod.

And now that he's caught, he's one of the few in modern times that doesn't mind courting them openly.

It's horrifies a lot of people. But he's got a very odd big tent coalition of voters behind him now. We'll have to see how long it can hold together before it splinters.
