If Meyer is gone (I no longer think he is) and if you take out Saban and Dabo...there is really not one coach that would make the fans happy.

Maybe Stoops?  Maybe?  After that, no one.

I feel that that’s not a good fit.  Didn’t he have issues with not acting out quick enough on violence against women on his team?   They would need to hire a super nice guy to ease the pain.  They had one....he wore a sweater vest for Christ sake.

How about Gary Patterson from TCU?

It'd be hard for him to ignore, that's for sure. tOSU is a better job in every significant way.

If Meyer leaves, though, I have a strong feeling that fan base is going to be in a 'Stoops or bust' mindset. Any coach outside of him or Saban would be viewed as a disappointment to a lot of people.

Not everyone sees it that way. There's a tremendous amount of value in job security and getting paid a very handsome salary. Ohio State head coaches don't retire from there, they all eventually get fired. He's being paid 5 million a year and he can do it for practically as long as he wants.

Patterson has had many chances to leave over the years, and has few wants. He coaches in a major conference in a fertile recruiting ground. He's not locked out of success like he would be at a G5 school, but also not held to the same expectations that he'd be at a blueblood school. He can win a national championship at TCU, but he doesn't have to win a national championship to stay at TCU.

For many, that's a much gig than Ohio St.

He was like that in person. He was just never comfortable with a spotlight.

Which makes his chosen profession a little weird.

probably helps when you don't have perlman and his creeps looking over your shoulder trying to get you fired over every mistake. (of which there was plenty)

Bo probably was best suited to be a  defensive coordinator for his entire career. He could have done very well, made great money, and wouldn’t have had to deal with the crap outside of the ball field (dealing with fans/alumni, AD’s, Chancellors).
